Hi Everyone,
I am fairly new to this board. My name is Jenn and I am 28 yrs old.
My mom has been having intestinal problems for over 4 yrs now. She
has had a few surgeries and was diagnosed with short bowel syndrome
after having 17 ft of her small intestine removed. For the past few
months, she has been having periods of severe constipation and
bloating. At times, her stomach bloats up and she looks like she is
9 mos pregnant. Have any of you ever experienced any of this? She
is undergoing many tests to determine what is causing the bloating.
The doctors feel that there might be a problem with her colon,
separate from the symptoms of sbs. They haven't yet determined yet,
but suggested that she might need surgery to remove all or part of
her colon & have some type of bag. I am not too familiar with the
terminology. I am looking for any advice/supports you could give
me. I would love to hear your stories. What problems caused you to
have the colostomy procedure and how are you doing with it? I am
just trying to get my facts straight and prepare myself in case my
mom does need to have this done. Please email me directly or post
on this board. I would love to hear from you!! Thanks for
listening and Take Care, Jenn
