Re: [colostomy] Re: Colostomy question

Hi Sara -
My husband recently got a colostomy (hopefully to be reversed in July). He uses
a two piece system & empties it at least once a day - sometimes more - varies
with what he eats, how much, how often, etc.

He currently has a yeast infection under the wafer, but before that, he changed
the wafer part every 5 or 6 days (when the tape would start coming off). Now
he's had to change the wafer daily because of the infection - it just won't stay
stuck - he's been adding tape to the outside of the wafer.

His stools are sorta solid-looking, but very soft. He takes a stool softener
twice a day per the dr's instructions. It doesn't continuously run like an
ileostomy, but it varies with what he eats, how often, how much, etc - just like
regular bowel movements.

I hope that helps!
Cathie

I was wondering for those of you with a colostomy how often do you change or empty the bag a day? Does the colostomy continuously run out like the ileostomy?...

Sara, It depends on the person. Some are lucky enough to go once a day. Others may go several times and consistency also depends on the person. Changing the...

Hi Sara and Amber: I've had a colostomy 11 1/2 years, and I'm managing fairly well. I do believe that an ileostomy has more of an almost constant output than...
