Hi Julie,
My name is Ken, and I am age 75 with a permanent colostomy for ten years. You
got a response from John Danaher to contact Hollister (Co.). Another big
company to contact is Convatec, 1-800-422-8811. You will get free information
from these companies, who will offer free product samples (via mail). Re your
mom, yes there is a relatively small "adjustment" period, but it's no big deal.
Shortly after my surgery I at first thought I was a freak. I had a few visits
from a home help nursing service to guide me through appliance changes, and that
helped a lot. Also, see if you have a nearby chapter of the United Ostomy
Association and go to their meetings (usually one per month). If you should
join (approximately $35.00/year) you will receive a quarterly magazine (Osomy
Quarterly) which is devoted 100% to ostomates with articles, short true stories,
and ostomy products adverrtising
You also may contact me personally if you like, and I will do my best to answer
your questions and offer advice. My e-mail address is <kenberg@...>.
