Re: [Clicky Hips Club] Home from Surgery!

Brenda--

Taking the bone from her leg and putting it on the socket to make it deeper and
having the pins are called pelvic and femerol osteotomies. Serenity had both
done. The pins aren't a bad thing.... Serenitys had them in her body about a
year now and our next dr appointment is in 2 weeks where we will be scheduling
her surgery to take the metal out. We haven't seen the doc since Dec 14, 07 so
Im really interested to see what he has to say about Serenity now.

Melissa --

So glad your daughter did well with surgery and is adjusting just fine. If you
have any spica cast questions, we are here. :)

Blessed Be - Joy & Serenity

never used it. Open reduction with Pelvic & femoral osteotomy at 18 months,
spica cast for 3 months. Next Dr. appointment April 18th, 08)

Melissa,
I am so glad all went well with Caroline. I tried to email you personally a
couple of days ago, but it came back returned, as it did this morning.
I've also been thinking about how the kids get comfortable & what she'd want
to do to be
entertained. Alivia is always "on the go" so that is a bit of a
concern for me.
Alivia's surgery is planned for June 3rd. I'm not familiar with all
the terms for the procedure besides the open redux. The dr told me he'd try to
put Alivia's femur back in the socket but he didn't think it was deep enough.
He thought he'd have
to take a piece of bone from her leg to deepen the socket. Then since
that leg is out of socket, it could have turned, causing her to need
pins in her leg. Did Caroline need any of that done?
I'm hoping we don't need the pins. Alivia also has a
cleft lip, so those 2 surgeries are enough for us!
How long was she inpatient? How was she feeling while in the
hospital?
Where are you from? We are in Indiana & seeing a Dr at Riley
Children's Hospital.
Caroline is in my thoughts & prayers.
Thanks,
Brenda

Hello everyone,

Thank you for your encouraging thoughts & comments. It was
heartwarming to see while we were in the hospital.

Caroline ended up having an open redux, adductor tenotomy and pemberton
osteo. on her left hip. Right one's ok for now, at least.

She did very well, surgery was almost 6 hours but she has been a star.
Pain has been controlled very well. We came home yesterday afternoon
and are trying to get settled in. She has been sleeping great, I think
she's glad to be in her own bed. We're having trouble figuring out
where to put her as she is casted pretty flat. Bean bags not working
very well, she slides right out unless we lean her far back.

All in all, glad it's over (the op that is). We'll just take it one
day at a time!

Melissa
