Re: [Clicky Hips Club] Introduction

Go ahead and ask whatever you want. If you have myspace or facebook or cafemom
pages i could show you pics of her in the casts and the scars after, etc.
Well, she was not walking before they surgery/cast (well she was walking holding
onto our fingers but never took independent steps by herself) and her surgery
was May 23, 2007 at 18 months old. It came off on August 23, 2007 at 21 months
old. She was in physical therapy after that (still is but probably don't need
it) and took her first steps on Dec 29th, 2007 at 25 months old so she hasn't
been walking for very long!

But I do not feel like this is the case for other hip displaysia children. We do
not know the real reason why she was so behind/delayed in gross motor
skills........ it had to be from more than the hip displaysia. Also because shes
really tall (and tall children have more to work with) and she has a cautious
nature.

Blessed Be - Joy & Serenity
(I was diagnosed with DDH in both hips at 6 months old, traction for 1 week,
closed reduction, spica cast for 6 months in 1983. Daughter, Serenity, diagnosed
at birth - Nov 2005 with DDH in left hip. 3 Pavlik harnesses, Rhino brace -
never used it. Open reduction with Pelvic & femoral osteotomy at 18 months,
spica cast for 3 months. X-ray on Oct 5th was excellent! Will be 2 in Nov 07)

Thanks Joy. We debated about going to Kosairs, we have a friend
who
had a great experience there (her son has a different problem). But,
since it is 4 hours away & we have Vanderbilt Children's here in
town, we decided we'd go there this time. If we end up having
further surgery we may very well go to Kosairs.

Do you mind if I ask about your little girl's recovery after the cast
came off? How quickly did she walk, etc.?
Thanks
Melissa

the metal taken out, but it should be a very short surgery and no
cast afterwards and then we will be done forever, yay!
