just to wish you all the best for friday. Having done a couple of stints in the
hospital and if you read this before you go I would advise you to take a couple
of soft pillows with you - one for you to sleep on and its much easier to get
used to the cast if you can prop yourself up with lots of pillows under you and
lucy. the hospital never seemed to have enough. I so feel for you - its a
really worrying time but no matter how hard the first few days are, be assured
it will get easier and just become part of your life (and before you know it it
will be off!).

my daughter maddie has been in a hip spica for four weeks now and we have 8
left to go. I must admit we found it hard to begin with as mads seemed fairly
miserable and i found everything hard to cope with but it really does get easier
and she is adjusting well. I can highly recommend the Steps charity website as
there is a discussion forum on there where loads of other parents post
questions, answers, feelings!! and ;you get heaps of advice from people who have
been through it or are going through it. I would have been lost without this.
Don't beat yourself up about any of what has happened. I've tried blaming myself
for alot of what maddie is going through but the main thing is that they can do
something about it. By the way - maddie is 9 months old, has had an open
reduction on one hip and a closed reduction on the other. We were diagnosed at
birth and have tried a variety of splints but nothing worked SO FAR. Fingers
crossed this is it but I just go a day at a time and
deal with what comes. (some days better than others!!). Good luck and keep in
touch if you need any more help or advice.

hi my five month old daughter is going into hospital on the 20th of
this month to have a arthogram and we are 99% sure she'll be placed in
a spica cast for three months, lucy was put in a pavlik harness when
she was about ten weeks i took it off the first one was to small then
the second one made her back go purple, i could really kick myself now
but i realise it was lack of knowledge i had never seen one before and
the hospital didn't have any info to give us although they were
supportive, it broke my heart so this time round i am desperate to
make sure i have all the knowledge i can so i am geared up this time
and not just left to get on with it! lucy is such a happy wee girl and
i'm so affraid she'll be unhappy and in pain with the spica, thanks to
everyone on this sight for i have now realised that all the kiddies
seem happy and i guess its true that its often harder for us as
parents. Still looking back i wish i had never took her harness off if
i knew this was the outcome back then i would have persivered so much
more, thought the spica was the very last resort not the next stage.
Will we cope with the spica if we couldn't cope with seeing her in the
harness.
