Claire,
Here are some stats regarding more than one family member with DDH. There is a
genetic component to it.
A girl who had a sibling with DDH has an 11% increased chance of DDH
boy who had a sibling with DDH has an 1% increased chance of DDH
a girl who had a parent with DDH has a 17 % increased chance of DDH
boy who had a parent with DDH has a 5% increased chance of DDH
a child ( either boy or girl) who had a parent and a sibling with DDH has a 36%
increased chance of DDH.
Hope this helps some. The only advice I can give you is to make sure that baby
number 2 is checked out thoroughly by ultrsound, both at newborn period ( within
the first 3-4 weeks) and some months later. This is what I did with my
hipbaby's younger brother.
Nancy ( owner and keeper of the www.hip-baby.org website, mom to Claudia,
misdiagnosed at 9 months, diagnosed at 16 months with bilateral DDH and both
hips dislocated, 8 days in traction, adductor tenotomy and closed reductions,
casts for 20 weeks, AVN in the left hip, full-time abduction brace wearing for 1
year, open reduction and bilateral pelvic osteotomies, cast wearing for 8 weeks,
now going for once a year check ups!)

Subject: [Clicky Hips Club] How common is Hip dislocation in subsequent
pregnancies
Hi i am currently pregnant with our second child. My DD was born after
a Breech birth with both hips fully dislocated but which rectified
itself after 9mths in a pavlik harness. My Nephew was born a few weeks
ago and was also breech and is having test to see if his hips are ok we
are now thinking BREECH births may have a genetic link as both fathers
were also Breech ? I was wondering what the likelyhood is of this baby
having DDH as well?
Thanks Claire
