Hi,
My daughter, Maddie, is 12 weeks old and was diagnosed with DHD more or less at
birth. Both her hips are completely dislocated and, having tried various
splints, the latest being the von Rosen, we are now waiting to have closed
reduction and go into plaster for 4 months. We have a date as the 14th November
and we are feeling fairly overwhelmed by the thought of it. I am especially
worried about the general anaesthetics and CT scans she is going to have over
the next few months and what to expect. I would be grateful for any tips on
nappies and everything else really. Also is it worth looking into car seats and
push chairs before the procedure as advice seems so varied and the nurses imply
that it is best to wait and see how her legs are set as the angle can vary so
much from child to child.
Does the plaster usually work? Do you think we should prepare ourselves for
months or years of what is to come? We are under Oswestry Orthopedic hospital
who seem to be fantastic.
I look forward to hearing from anyone!
Thanks.
