Re: [Clicky Hips Club] Car Seats for Hip Spica babies!

Hi Andrea & Lottie

Thanks for your reply re the car seat, I think we may have it sorted now as I've
had a few e mails from people in the club pointing me in the right direction.
've contacted Britax and ordered the extension straps and we are going to look
at a Club Class Extra seat tomorrow, so fingers crossed!!!

Nice to know that there are other parents going through the same things, Ella is
in her first week in the cast and seems to be coping fairly well, she is just a
little more "clingy" than she was before but its early days yet, otherwise she
is the same happy baby she always was.

Hope everything goes well for you next week with the new cast, nice to hear from
you.

Luv Alison & Ella XX

Hi Alison

My daughter had an abductor tenotomy, closed reduction and full spica fitted
on 1st Nov. Five weeks ago today! Next week we go in for a new one to be fitted
and x-rays. The new one will also be on for 6 weeks followed by an abductor
brace for three months.

Sorry to hear you are having problems with transport. We have a Britax Club
Class Extra which we use with an extension strap which Britax provided for £5.
You may be able to get one of these car seats from E-bay or by advertising in
your local paper? Britax don't make this model anymore unfortunately. Our
pushchair is a Bebe Confort, we have a pillow on it which Lottie lays on and the
straps are long enough to hold her. It's good because the seat unit moves as one
so we can angle her up alittle rather than keep her flat, if the back was
separate to the seat part and the two moved indepenently of each other Lottie
would have to lay down all the time. She would not be happy!

Good luck with Ella's treatment.
Keep smiling!

Andrea & Lottie

Hi.

Amy is now 10 months old, and had an adductor tenotomy, closed reduction and
hip spica fitted 6 weeks ago (changing it tomorrow!! Yipppeee!!! Half way
through!!) We're using a Britax Elite car seat, which is fab - and we've found
that the crotch strap is well long enough (although we have an order form for an
extension strap, too - call Britax on 01264 386034 - option 4 on a touch-tone
phone for customer services). The guy at customer services told me that the
crotch strap is only for the Elite and the Trio (although what the difference
is, I can't tell!).

We also have a Cossatto (Babies R Us own brand, I think) Toronto pushchair,
which is fab too cos with a cushion behind her, she can sit up and see around
her.

Sorry for short reply - breakfast time. Hope everything settles down for you
and your little one very soon. Life is still lots of fun in a spica, believe
me!!

Take care,

Barbara & Amy xxx

Hi there, my name is Alison and I am mum to 8 month old Ella who has
just come home from hospital after having a closed reduction and a
hip spica cast fitted. Has anyone got any suggestions regarding
what car seats that are available, are suitable or adaptable for use
with a hip spica as we are having real problems and the hospital and
occupational therapy unit seem to offer no solutions. I have a
Britax Eclipse seat but the straps seem to be a problem as they are
not long enough, I have heard that maybe Britax can supply straps
but not sure if these are available for only selected models? Any
advise or if in fact anyone in the yorkshire area has any equipment
they no longer require that they would be willing to loan on to me
then please please let me know, I would be grateful. Thanks for
listening to me, best of luck to you all, Alison XX
