Thank you for replies to my introduction, I really appreciate it, yesterday, we
saw the consultant (childrens) orthopaedic here in Ocford. He was absolutely
brilliant. He is the Chairman for STEPS and I got the feeling that he sees loads
and loads of these cases and that we 'gelled'.

Anyway, he wants Naomi to have an operation, and the date has been set for the
21st of this month. It is just her left hip that is dislocated; he said he wants
to do an arthroscopy (is that right? With the dye) and will then try to push
some of the cartiledge back + take it from there. He didn't seem to think that
it would need pins + plates, which was what I had geared myself up for.

He told us about the risks of vascular necrosis (again, not sure if that is
right?) where the cartiledge stops having blood flow to it - there's a 5-10%
chance apparently, so will sit tight. He then wants her in plaster (I think a
spica) for 3 mths.
So that's it, really. We're going in on Monday for pre-op talks - I suppose it's
on stuff like how to manage the plaster?? I'm not looking forward to any of it,
but I know that I need to keep upbeat for Naomi.

Just a few questions- she is 18mths (will be 19 by the time of surgery) and
currently in her cot. I was thinking of moving her to a bed. Should I do this
before the surgery? Does it really matter? Or will she still be okay in the cot
anyway? Also, are there any parents out there who have had their little ones in
plaster and at nursery? Naomi loves going to nursery and I do work. Nursery have
said that it will be fine, but I'm not sure about the logistics of it all.

Many thanks,
Oyn xx
