Hi!

I'm not entirely sure what the reasons behind Amy having bilateral CDH are, as
she was:
1) overdue
2) very low amniotic fluid, and I don't think she had much room in there
3) first born
4) girl
5) she kept kicking me as she was going down the birth canal.

However, when I mentioned that it could be hereditary, my husband's mum
mentioned that his dad had had one leg slightly longer than the other, and noone
ever knew why. It is therefore possible that, while both my husband and his
brother are absolutely fine, it has been passed down from grandfather to
granddaughter.

....But, as I say, she also had lots of other contributory factors, and it
could've been caused by any one of them.

Think the thing is to recognise that it might happen to your grandchild - for
any number of reasons, not necessarily hereditary - and to know that if it does,
he/she has the best grandma anyone could ask for, cos you've been there and come
out the other end.
