Re: [Clicky Hips Club] shallow hip????

Claire,
It is very possible for a child to have had some treatment, then stopped
treatment, and things to either get worse, or have never been totally
'fixed' in the first place. If a doc at the hospital can feel something
then I would think it is fairly significant. Sorry, I am not trying to
worry you. Much more common is that the doc can not feel something, but on
the x-ray it becomes very apparent that the femur is not in the socket
correctly. That is why the standard of care is to both feel ( manual exam)
and also x-ray ( or ultrasound if the child is under 6 months or so). A
child can often also walk even if there is something wrong with the hip. I
think it would be the best thing that you could do by going to a ped ortho.
Good luck, and let me know what happens with the visit.

at 9 months by an adult orthopedic surgeon, diagnosed at 16 months old with
bilaterally dislocated hips and DDH by a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, 8
days traction, adductor tenotomy, closed reduction, AVN in left hip, spica
casts for 20 weeks, full-time abduction brace wearing for 1 year, bilateral
open reductions and pelvic osteotomies, spica casts for 7 weeks, now going
for once a year check-ups!]

did a physical exam?? which i guess makes it even worse really dosnt it if
she can feel something isnt right.
