Susan,
You are correct in saying that if the child has bilateral then comparing one
leg to the other does no good. That is what happened to Claudia with the
first doctor that we went to for her DDH. He compared the legs did not do
x-rays and sent us on our way. 6 months later when she was still not able
to take a step forward on her own, went to someone else who did x-rays! I
agree that knowing now one way or the other would sit better with me. I am
not sure what difference waiting 6 weeks will do, if your nephew can't put
weight I can't imagine that 6 weeks will make any difference. Just my
thoughts. I am glad that you are advocating for your nephew.

Nancy (keeper of the www.hip-baby.org website and mom to Claudia,
(misdiagnosed at 9 months) diagnosed with bilaterally dislocated hips and
DDH at 16 months, traction for 8 days, adductor tenotomy, closed reduction,
20 weeks of casts, full-time abduction brace wearing for 1 year, open
reduction and bilateral pelvic osteotomies, 7 weeks of cast, now only going
for once a year x-ray and check-ups)
