Re: Osteotomy Questions

Hi Jen!!
Thanks for the reply. Jenna had the pins/plate put in during her
femoral osteotomy with varus shortening, but seemingly there are
surgeons who also put the plate/pins in during the pelvic osteotomy
also.
I spoke to Nancy(from Hip-Baby) on this one and she said it was very
rare for the pelvic osteotomy not to have pins/plate....again
possibly different surgeons and also the fact that each country seems
to perform certain surgeries different from the next one. Very
interesting though.

So pleased to hear how well little Gemma is doing and please keep us
all updated on Georgia also. I've heard some people say their child
is only kept in for the day when their pins/plate are removed, then
again each surgeon has his own way of doing things and of course
every child is an individual. Good luck for Georgia's pins/plate
removal, let us know how she gets on.

Jenna is doing really well, honestly Jen, you'd never know all she's
been through. Her walk looks perfectly normal, no waddle. The
difference to see was definitely after the pelvic op was performed.
The results have amazed me and my hubby and we're now down to once a
year checks only now!!!!HURRAY!!!!
She's doing so well that (I remember talking to you about the ballet
Jen??)well she passed her very first ballet exam last Tuesday!!
So it's true to say that there is a light at the end of that
seemingly never-ending tunnel.

Good luck to all members who's children are just starting their
treatment and of course to those in the middle of things right now.
they will come through it all and always remember that you are doing
what is right for your child.

Keep in touch Jen and love to Georgia and little Gemma.

Love Susan
