Kate,
I remember well when Claudia figured out how to wiggle herself into a
standing position, and you are right, they can't figure out how to get back
down!! It is kind of humorous, but it is also tiring after awhile. What we
did was one of us would go in and gently lay her down again. Sometimes we
would have to do this a few times in a row until she got tired and stopped
doing if for the night. I seem to remember that after a week or so, she
stopped doing this. As to naps, I remember our ped ortho telling me to
expect her to sleep less since she was not able to move she would not be
able to expend as much energy and would need less sleep. I expected it to
be a little less, but let me tell you it was a dramatic difference all of a
sudden, which was quite hard on yours truly who was used to getting a bit of
a break in the middle of the day. That may not be your problem since Leah
is not new to the cast part, but I just thought I would put in my bit there.
And see, she did figure out how to roll over. Wait until she starts trying
to crawl up the steps, cast and all. Just hang in there, I venture to say
that she will stop doing it soon.
Nancy ( when Claudia first came home from the hospital in the cast she
wanted me hold her hand until she fell asleep because that is what she had
been used to in the hospital. She was in traction for 8 days and that is
what we did. Only problem is when we came home there was no way I could do
that, her room wasn't set up for me to sit and hold her hand through the
side of her crib, and even when I did it started to take longer and longer,
until she would keep waking up to see if I was still there. It was so hard
to let her cry, but that is what I did after checking on her and talking to
her, and rubbing her back and stuff. Remember she was 16 months old at the
start of all of her DDH, not a really young baby who didn't understand)
