I'm still here, fighting the good fight. But I'm now the solo CNM in my
practice which puts me on call 24/7 which means that I spend a lot less time on
the computer. Even my blog is suffering. And my dh is in our diocesan lay
ministry formation program, which means that he is always asking me to review
his papers (he is going through back to school anxiety).
For those who don't know who I am, I'm a certified nurse-midwife in a private
physician owned practice. The practice is generically Christian and definitely
pro-life but the docs prescribe some contraceptives and also perform
sterilization. I am free to follow my conscience but if a patient wants
contraceptives or sterilization I have to send them to the doc or the NP.
However, I am free to counsel them about the risks of contraceptives and I can
certainly ask them if they have read books such as "The Bible and Birth
Control". It isn't perfect but it's getting better. still, I prefer the
prenatal and birth care aspects. Oh, and I also do a little NFP based
infertility work, too.
I'm partially trained in Creighton but didn't finish the course for many
different reasons, of which only one was money. I can work with just about any
NFP method that my patient might choose and I can read charts from just about
every system. I am a real fan of NFP charting for gyn issues like PMS and
painful periods.
