Progesterone from the pregnancy slows down the intestines (so that
your body can get every last nutrient out of your food!).
What I recommend to pregnant moms with bowel issues is ground flaxseed
meal, 2 Tbs daily, mixed in what ever they desire. It is really good
in oatmeal (and oatmeal is also good for constipation).
I am actually more concerned about the diagnosis of 'anemia'. Way too
many women are reflexively given iron supplements without an adequate
workup of their anemia. If the anemia is not due to iron deficiency,
all the pills in the world won't help......
There is a condition called thalasemia minor (Mediterranean anemia)
that does not respond to iron supplements - in fact they actually make
the person's health worse. I would hope that your chronic anemia was
thoroughly investigated.
