My understanding is that the short luteal phase when menses first return is
actually considered part of the way ecological breastfeeding postpones
pregnancy. It is acknowleged and accepted by the church. It should be a
temporary condition, although I would think that if the luteal phase has not
reached an acceptable length (12 days) by 4-6 months after breastfeeding is
COMPLETELY over, it might be a permanent defect to address. I have a very
short luteal phase (around 6-7 days) due to PCOD and I take progesterone
shots post-ovulation for health reasons (lowering ovarian and uterine cancer
risks).
