Cycles in extended breastfeeding   Message List

Hello all,

I am begining my fourth post-partum fertile cycle after delivering my
third child. (Our baby is 12 months old). I understand it is common
to experience shortened luteal phase while breastfeeding, however I
wonder how long does this last? For the past three cycles, I notice
a temp rise around day 20, then begin menses 6 days later.

Another question related to this is the moral implications
surrounding a shortened luteal phase. I have read that a luteal
phase of 10 days or less cannot sustain implantation of an embryo.
If one is aware of this irregularity, would it be prudent to continue
NFP until the defect is corrected in the event that a miscarriage is
likely?

Thank you.

My understanding is that the short luteal phase when menses first return is actually considered part of the way ecological breastfeeding postpones pregnancy....

I second the thought that you don't know how long any particular cycle will be until it's over. Between our first and second I had just shy of 17 months of...
