Hi Tonyjay,
after reading your post, I felt I had to reply.
As a new person on this group, I thought it would be helpful for me
to see if anyone else out there was suffering the same pains as me
and I hoped that we could all pool our research together to try and
find a cure.
I too suffer from cronic daily headaches with migraines thrown in
for good measure.
I have seen 4 different GP's and 2 Neurologists who were unable to
help so I am being refered to a Specialist in London (England)
What frustrates me is the lack of knowledge out there, and given by
health care professionals.
I go into my doctors surgery armed with sheets of paper and leaflets
for him to read before he either misdiagnoses me again (I have been
told that I have cluster migraines- which I clearly dont) or hands
me another prescription for a similar drug to what I have tried.
All I can say to everyone out there is make sure you arm yourself
with as much information as you can before you see ANY health care
specialist.
I have found keeping a food diary, sleep diary, weather diary, and
pain diary useful because it shows a more rounded picture then just
saying I feel fine today but not so good the day before.
Also by keeping these various diarys, you may be able to spot a
pattern of some sort (i.e when I have cheese on my pasta, and red
wine, followed by an orange, I get a migraine, or the pain in my head
moves side. The pain is especially bad when there is a storm)These
are just examples, but it illistrates the point very well. You may
not necessarily be allergic to any food, but the mix of 2 effects
your pain.
You may not see anything at all, but its a worth a try, and it shows
a health care professional that you have made an effort. It also
stops them wasting your time- like telling you to not eat certain
foods, etc
BE PREPARED. Go see your neurologist or GP knowing a little about
normal migraine treatment (epilepsy medication, anti depressents,
suppliments, etc). Understand how they will effect you and your
lifestyle. Epilepsy medication and anti depressents are common
treatments of migraine but they made me very sick, forgetful,
paranoid, and tired.
Also ask his opinion about treatments you have found out about. I
asked me Neurologist about using a feverfew nasal spray and showed
him evidence of the herb working on migraine patients. I am now
looking at importing some from the USA to try.
I sleep very badly, and I think that this either is the cause or has
an effect on my migraines and daily headache. When I go to bed
absolutely exhausted, I find that I enter REM sleep much faster,
need less shut eye, and have less of a headache than when I toss and
turn all night and still feel exhausted after 12 hours sleep.
I really hope that this rather long e-mail helps someone out there
and I hope that we can all help each other in finding knowledge and
sharing it as not one single person I have met (apart from online)
has any idea whats it like to be in pain every single minute of the
day. Its so easy to let the pain win, but I really hope we can all
support each other.
NEVER GIVE UP
