Has anyone out there tried these braces for chondromalacia and if so
did it help your condition? I have had chondromalacia on and off for
years. I am very active and when the condition comes back , I do a lot
of strengthening and stretch PT and seem to calm if down to the point
where I can go quite some time (year or more) without a problem
but...it comes back again and I need to rerpeat the process. I saw a
guy in my health club wearing these straps and he tells me it works for
him. Just wondering if anyone else has some insight before I buy a pair.
I am active, fifty, and like to run, cycle, elliptical and pool
run/swim.
Yes, I have tried Cho Pat. Fairly useless. Bulky too.
I have found the very best to be GenuTrain P3 Knee Support.
I bought them in Europe and they're very good. You can order them online in
the U.S. and they're much cheaper than in Europe. I have terrible chondro
and I can downhill ski in these.

I have the thin straps that go below the knee, and they make me worse.

One caution with this product. I had a lot of luck with any product that
provided compression to keep swelling down in the knee region. With compression
that only was applied in the knee region, I began to have swelling in my ankles.
The best luck I have had so far is the Jobst thigh high compression sock. The
best price I find now is $42 at Walgreens online. I realize this product claims
no knee support. I did have a limited amount of luck with a straight pat strap.

I just searched for the GenuTrain P3 Knee Support on Ebay and there is
an auction starting at 99 cents! It's too big for me but someone
should get it:

I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Some here mentioned using
them to reduce swelling. For me, it was a matter of addressing the mis-alignment
of my knees...these braces lift the knee cap up and inward, which is a huge help
for me when my knees are at their worst. I've gone through long periods where I
use them on both knees all day. Luckily I'm having some luck with PT, meds and
injections at the moment, so haven't needed the braces much since early this
year.
They are really expensive though--I was super lucky that my insurance covered
them.
Hope you find some good relief!
