I haven't used anything like the cho pat strap. I have, however, had a lot of
help from the DonJoy lateral J braces my docs have given me.

I think it depends on what you're trying to achieve. Some here mentioned using
them to reduce swelling. For me, it was a matter of addressing the mis-alignment
of my knees...these braces lift the knee cap up and inward, which is a huge help
for me when my knees are at their worst. I've gone through long periods where I
use them on both knees all day. Luckily I'm having some luck with PT, meds and
injections at the moment, so haven't needed the braces much since early this
year.
 
They are really expensive though--I was super lucky that my insurance covered
them.
