Hello! I was wondering if any of you would offer your opinion on
this, and have any ideas on how to fight it. We have five children in
foster care. They have been in care for just over three years. We've
been in a seemingly endless loop in the court system.. The judge won't
terminate but he doesn't appear to be in any hurry to give them back
either. Now we've been told that there's plans to put our 2 year old
on Prozac and our 5 year old on Risperdal. They claim that our 2 year
old likes to pull her hair out after visits (she always seems to have
plenty of hair though!) and the 5 year old isn't sleeping well.
Now, we're certainly not doctors but everything we've read seems to
indicate that the potential for harm outweighs the benefits in
prescribing these drugs in children this young. What are your
thoughts on this? Any successes and/or horror stories?
I just got a call from my attorney and he said we are having a hearing
later this week regarding the medications. He made it sound as if
he'll go through the motions, but wasn't really behind our decision.
So I guess if we're going to fight this, we'll have to come up with a
compelling argument on our own! We've found numerous articles in
online medical journals, for whatever good that does us. What exactly
are our rights in this regard? The case is in Michigan.
