                                                          A Child Caring Concern

 First Annual Family Law Conference

                                                                                                        “In Search of Reasonable Efforts”

March 17, & 18, 2006

                                                 at

                     Sheraton Bradley Airport Hotel

                               Windsor Locks, CT

The First Annual Family Law Conference is sponsored by CCC, Inc. a Connecticut non-profit organization who is concerned about the welfare of children both in Connecticut and nationally.  Through our research, we have discovered deficits in the training of the professionals and paraprofessionals who advocate for children and their families in Dependency and Neglect proceedings.  CCC is working in collaboration with Constitutional Legal Institute of New England, Inc., Florida Family Advocacy and Family Rights Advocacy Institute among other groups of professionals who we feel will bring a myriad of expertise and useful information to the attendees.  The conference enables knowledge, education and professional growth for family law advocates, family advocates, paralegals, and paraprofessionals and parents to meet, obtain and exchange information to improve the welfare of children involved in Dependency and Neglect proceedings.  It adds a broader base for family law advocates, paralegals and family advocates to build the best possible defense for their clients.

The conference officially begins on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 4:00 P.M. with registration to receive your packets indicating the workshops of your choice and where they will be facilitated.  Workshops will be followed by a dinner, keynote address and ample time to visit the Resource Room.  For those who want to become certified Family Advocates by FRA Institute, fees will be paid directly to the facilitator at the time of registration.

The conference will resume on Saturday morning bright and early by 8:00 a.m.  Registration for those who have not yet registered on Friday.  Workshops and sessions will continue throughout the day until lunch breaks and final workshops ending by 4:00 p.m.

Continuing Legal Education units will be offered to Attorneys who take Dependency and Neglect Training from FRA Institute.

Registration fees:  Attorneys:  $150.00 for weekend plus room rental fee.  Paralegals:  $75.00 plus room fee.  Parents $50.00 plus room fee.  Rental Fee special price $109.00.  Shuttle service available from other hotel locations.   Fee includes workshops, Keynote Speech, Entertainment, and Dinner on Friday evening.  Breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

Workshops and keynote speaker to be announced in the near future which may include the following themes:  Anatomy of a Case Plan; Strategies To Empower Legal Advocacy in Dependency and Neglect, Confidential Records: How To Obtain Them From the Start,  Standby Guardianship and Its Usefulness in Dependency and Neglect, Defending Against False Allegations:  How to Fight and Win, Probable Cause Hearings and Their Power in Dependency and Neglect, Confrontation and Its Use in Quasi-Judicial Hearings; Does RICCO Apply in Dependency and Neglect?

This will be a day of collaboration and placing a public face on issues that many know have hindered the process for children and families.  Please consider joining us for an informative educational and fun weekend.
