Hello. My name is Laurie Edberg.I am a 38 y/o mother of 3 boys,which
I lost custody of Nov 1,2004.I have antaxia and a tracheotomy.I do
notr drink,smoke,do drugs,party or live a illegal or immoral life. I
have never abused my children and I love my children,which MCFD has
stated in court.I have been fighting for 15 years to maintain
access,custody and contact with my children.Under s.15 and s.55 the
MCFD has a obligation to keep the family together where ever
possible.Not too invade,seperate and destroy families.

I have talked with many other disabled parents who have gone through
or going through basically the same situation.I have also met
recently with a woman who has had her family destroyed,like mine. I
have also read a journal published by Status of Women Canada about
Disabled Parents and MCFD in BC.I was one of the mothers
interviewed.The statistics are horrible and its the children that
suffer needlessly.

I go to supreme court for my appeal on August 30,2005.Also as a back
up. Back to Family court that same day for increased and better
access.Right now I see my oldest son once aweek for 4 hours,
unsupervised. That was a court order.I also see my 8 y/o twin boys
twice a month now for 3 hours,which I must pay for a child care
assistant.Demanded by MCFD,which I bellieve they should be paying
for.My mother died 3 years ago leaving me a small trust for myself
and the 3 boys.Ever since than MCFD has been or trying to passing the
buck and not taken any responsibility for themselves.

THIS MUST STOP.Enough families are being recklessly destroyed because
MCFD abuses their power and profits substantially from apprehending
children.Please be aware of this and acknowlegde this in your issues
with the liberal government.THINGS HAVE TO CHANGE FOR THE CHILDREN !
