RE: [chicago alanon] I'm brand new here

Hello

I really don't know how to start

I feel that I' am trap and that don't matter what I do a will have this problem
all my life

Mi wife is an alcoholic and I help her on anything that a can do to support her
emotionally, financially and everything else, but I' am getting tired and
frustrated. Most of my and her relatives

are advising me to take my daughter, she is 9 years old, leave and start over .

I'am always waiting for her to change, more than 15 years, I' am very tired and
now is more stressful because my daughter need more attention, I have no problem
taking care my daughter being a Father and a Mother for her, but some times she
not even let mi do this.

It's been very difficult and is getting worse, don't know what to do but have
to write something to start moving forward. I hope is not to late.

Henry J.

Hi,
I'm pretty new to this whole thing too. The alcoholic in my life is in recovery,
something I am very grateful for, but it brings a whole other set of issues. I
think the key to personal fulfilment and happiness is acceptance. Acceptance
over how little control you have mainly. I thought I was in control and that
nothing in life would or could bother me too much. Then I went to Al-anon and
realised how little control I had over anything. I find it difficult but when I
do accept that I am happier. Al-anon is the most fantastic thing to have come
into my life. Do not get me wrong I resent the hell out of having to go. I wish
to God my husband was not an alcoholic, but....

The slogans in Al-anon are a gift and get me through the day.. At times I am
convinced people think I am a loon. I walk around muttering things to myself,
but it works. Things like "How important is it?" "Did not Cause it, Cannot
Control It, Will not Cure it" "This Too Shall Pass"

Please do try and find a meeting as the support in the rooms is fantastic.
Although I am not going for very long I am a changed/changing person and all for
the better. In the absence of a meeting, or in conjunction with a meeting please
feel free to drop me a line. I do not know very much but what little I do know I
am happy to share. I am also a willing ear if you want to get stuff off your
chest.

In the mean time, take care of YOU.
Yvonne
