My name is Jim C. I am a deeply grateful member of Al-Anon.
I am reminded, "We are here because we were not all there." If we knew
how
to handle life's situations in the first place, particularly those
involving
alcoholics, we would not be here in Al-Anon.
In my past, I wasn't "all there." I got lost in unhealthy, co-dependent,
faulty relationships because of my own thinking problems, emotional
problems, and spiritual problems. I allowed my personality, my desires,
my
dreams, my needs, to be squashed. Other relationships were always more
important than my relationship with my Higher Power and myself. I have
no
one else to blame but myself. If I change direction, change my
behaviors,
change my thinking, change my dependencies, then I no longer have to
give up
my life to those homicidal and suicidal relationships. (There are many
more
ways to kill than the physical.)
I learn a completely new ways of thinking and being through Al-Anon.
Healthy
and complete dependence on my Higher Power gives me independence from
unhealthy relationships. I no longer have to fear anyone or any
situation.
"To Thine Own Self Be True."
