Amber,
Your story so much resembles mine. I've been in al-anon over 20 years, but
haven't always taken advantage of the tools al-anon has given me. I'm again
working the steps from Step 1.
I've learned through the years, that I have to work on a relationship with
myself, before expecting to have a relationship with anybody else. I also
learned that I'm in control of myself, nobody else, and that my destiny in life
comes from the decisions I make. I've had to forgive my dad for his
alcoholism, and I've forgiven my mother for asking us to overlook the alcoholic
behavior.
I strongly suggest face to face meetings, getting a sponsor, getting an
ODAAT aka One Day At A Time and 12-Step book, and use the tools Al-Anon
provides
to us, so that one day, you'll also learn forgiveness, acceptance, and get
control of your life back.
