If I click "The Science" I get a list of articles about human biology, but
none of them seem relevant to the Blood Type Diet. One looks as though it
might be relevant, but it is in Norwegian, so I can't tell. On the other
hand, one of them is about typhoid vaccine. If I'm investigating weight loss,
it's hard to see an article about typhoid vaccine as anything other than a
distraction.
Clearly weight loss is a big problem. You can try to lose weight using the
low fat/exercise combination that your doctor would recommend. Unfortunately,
many people find that they don't lose weight, or they are unable to stick to
the rules. Although this diet might work in some theoretical sense, we have
to judge it by results, and we find that it doesn't help a lot of people.
Of course there are plenty of other diets to choose from. The Blood Type Diet
is just one. The problem I see is that these diets don't work either. You
start on one; you stick to the rules for a while and lose a bit of weight.
Then you find that you can't face another rhubarb stick (or whatever) and you
fall off the wagon. Your weight goes back on, but you blame yourself for not
sticking to the diet. Virtually everyone who tries the diet has the same
experience, so -- again judging by results -- the diet is no good. However,
it's human nature that people tend to blame themselves rather than reaching
that conclusion.
What I want is weight loss advice that works better than the conventional low
fat diet. I could give this advice to a group of people, and I could give
conventional diet advice to another group of people, and I could see that the
first group do better. This is the obvious way of testing any new diet, but
hardly anyone does it (and incidentally, the Blood Type Diet people didn't).
