Happiness & Character Strength Questionnaires - online & free!   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #632 of 1060 |
Dr. Martin Seligman of the Positive Psychology Centre at the
University of Pennsylvania has put online an extensive - and FREE! -
series of very useful self-test questionnaires on various aspects of:

* Happiness
* Psychological and Emotional health
* Meaningfulness of life
* Character Strengths
* Leadership and Aptitude tests
...and many more!

You have to register some basic information about yourself (used anonymously to
develop the reference database of 700,000 user test results against which you
can compare your own performance) before you can access the tests, but the
effort is well worthwhile because you are then given your own PERSONAL RESULTS
PAGE to log into at any time you wish (and re-take any of the tests at any time
if you so wish).

If you wish you can compare your own results against those of people
of similar age, similar geographical location, similar educational
level etc.

IF YOU ARE DISSATISFIED with your performance in the tests, a range
of accompanying manuals can help you to improve your score. The
website provides links to Amazon USA for these, I have provided below
a list of LINKS to the reviews/order pages for these manuals on
Amazon UK - in many cases there are low-cost used copies available there.

Dr. Seligman has developed the science of "Positive Psychology", a
new branch of psychology which focuses on the empirical study of such
things as positive emotions, strengths-based character, and healthy
institutions.

Positive Psychology includes the study of positive emotion, positive
character traits, and positive cultural institutions. Dr. Seligman is
now turning his attention to training Positive Psychologists,
individuals whose practice will make the world a happier place,
parallel to the way clinical psychologists have made the world a less
unhappy place!

His research has demonstrated that it is possible to be happier, to
feel more satisfied, to be more engaged with life, find more meaning,
have higher hopes, and even laugh and smile more, regardless of one's
circumstances.

Positive psychology interventions can also lastingly decrease
depression symptoms. The research underlying these rigorously tested
interventions has been presented in the American Psychologist, the
journal of the American Psychology Association.
