A very under-publicised cause of heart burn and acid reflux is an
overgrowth of candida.
I discovered this quite recently when researching during an attack of thrush.
Candida / thrush is a fungus which can attack any moist, mucousy area of the
body - including mouth, genitals, oesophagus, feet (athlete's foot) and any
sweaty crevice in the skin.
The holistic cure (as opposed to the medical one) is to cut out all
sugars (including fruit sugars in fruit and fruit juices) from your diet, plus
anything with a yeast or fungal component - so bread, beer, mushrooms, vinegar
etc etc.
My heartburn cleared up entirely within a couple of days of starting
on this diet, and returned with a vengeance when I tried to reintroduce sugar
after a couple of weeks. I'm not sure how long the full cure will take, but I'm
not finding the diet too difficult.
Parts of the body other than mouth and throat obviously take longer
to react.
