500 years ago a great spiritual teacher called Guru Nanak began transmitting
teachings that were to become the bedrock of a major religion. It is said that
"Japji Sahib" is a record of the first words he uttered after his enlightenment.
Japji is the very embodiment of wisdom. It's teachings contain everything you
need to know about your relationship to the universe.
The very sound current itself is a power for transformation and has been used
as a basis of meditations for centuries (It doesn't matter what you believe)...

"Let contentment be your ear-rings, humility your begging bowl, and
meditation the ashes you apply to your body. Let death be your patched coat,
and purity your way in the world. Let faith be your walking stick, and the
brotherhood of all the highest order of your Yogic sect, Conquer your mind, and
you shall conquer the world. I bow unto the One, I bow unto the Primal One,
the pure light, without beginning, without end. Throughout all ages the same."
*Guru Nanak was addressing yogis of his time and referring to their traditional
appearance.
Reflections
-----------
When our natural disposition is contentment then our every experience of life is
coloured by that feeling. It lends the
humility to receive everything (`good' or `bad') as a gift, and not as an
achievement of the ego. This perpetuates contentment. The easiest way to reach
this desired state is through meditation, by finding the resources and the peace
from within. This doesn't mean that we no longer touch the world, simply that
the world no longer dictates our internal life.
Death is our friend. It clothes us with the experience of life. Without this
awareness time loses its value. Death is the ultimate symbol of change.
Embracing the ebb and flow natural in all things allows us to let go. Trying to
hold on to what has already passed is a sure way to live in hell.
It is a simple truth that what we think, do and eat impacts our emotional,
mental and physical state, and so affects our consciousness too. If we want to
raise our awareness, we need to purify the body and mind. It's not about
morality, it's about practicality and levels of vibration.
Trust is the enemy of fear, and a life ruled by fear is no life at all. To feel
alive is to be able to walk into the unknown.
When we see the other as ourselves, we begin to see something divine in all and
the world becomes our heaven. The hardest, most rewarding of conquests is over
the mind. Nothing in creation has more power over our life.
If we cannot surrender we cannot give of ourselves completely. When we hold
back we identify with our smallness instead of connecting with something greater
- something we experience as vast and eternal. This connection is the true
source of wholeness, sufficiency and faith.
