We have discussed in this group previously the journey of "Ego
Death" (transcending personal patterns we have become conditioned to and
identified with, that have now become self-restricting or even self-sabotaging.
Ego Death, if not too recklessly executed, can produce an experience of
"liberation" (once the terror has calmed down!) and an experience of "flying".
From Doing to Being
-------------------
Three years ago I began to write a book entitled "From Doing to
Being". I felt at the time (how little I knew!) that I had travelled
some distance in this direction and had mastered some of the tools,
science and art of this journey, so was ready to pass on "the
secrets" to others.
The book soon ground to a halt, as my energy and enthusiasm
evaporated - The book has become yet another piece of "DOING" and
was racing towards being (!) not only another energy-drain but a
total contradiction of the title!
What unfolded next was a long series of challenges which made a
mockery of my previously perceived "expertise" in this subject
area! - I had to "go back to school" and "learn some more lessons"!
The next batch of "lessons" were harder than the first. They brought
into my mind a stream of "revelations" about just how deeply
entrenched into the mire of "DOING" I really am! They also invited
me to take a series of terrifyingly escalating risks in order to
make further progress towards the experience of "BEING".
This week I have taken my biggest leap yet...
An hour of live radio interview with no planned technical content to
safely hide behind (I come from a technical expertise background).
It was pretty terrifying, ! - the kind of nightmare scenario I have
studiously avoided all my life!!
To make matters worse, the interview presented me with a series of
golden "DOING" opportunities - e.g. to promote my work and my
websites. However - as my irritating personal mannerisms reveal! -
I managed to stay in a "being" flow of natural unfolding (or not! -
as the case may be) with a minimum of "doing".
The result was that, although it is by far the longest live
interview I have ever done, it was the least traumatic, and
was "energising" rather than a "draining" task - Of course I can't
speak for the listeners' experience!!
CHEAL MEMBERS' EXPERIENCES?
--------------------------
Am I the only CHEAL member who has ever taken a leap out of "The
Box" (personal comfort and "usual patterns" zone). I think not!
Why not share your experiences with us? Did it work? Was it a
disaster? Did you learn or gain anything from it?
