Suzy Johnston has written an engaging, informative and often amusing
autobiography about her descent from being full of joie de vivre to
periods of depression, hypomania, paranoia, self-harm, suicidal
thoughts and eventually full-blown manic-depressive illness with
periods in a psychiatric hospital.
She also records how she cane to terms with her deterioriation and
finally managed to pull herself out of the downward spiral towards
oblivion.
Her book makes a good companion to her mother's book/perspective of
the same journey, which was mentioned in my last posting. Suzy and
her mother now work to improve care and understanding for mental
illness sufferers and campaign for better education of children and
young adults.
