My daughter (spastic diplegia) was a real toe walker at age five and had PERC procedures done on both heel cords by Dr. Nuzzo in Summit, New Jersey. It was an outpatient procedure followed by four weeks in walking casts. Result: no more toe walking. No scars either. Prognosis: maybe 50/50 chance will need it again as she nears adult height.
Five years later at age 10 now, I noticed she was walking with a slight crouch in her knees more often and seemed tighter due to a tremendous growth spurt in height. Two weeks ago, she had the procedure repeated on her heels and gastrocs by Dr. Nuzzo, again as an outpatient. She is still in walking casts but gets them off on the 22nd. I am optimistic that results will be good again -- can let you know soon.
Both times, our insurance companies (different) paid 100% of the procedure. They love the fact that there is no hospital stay.
Dr. Nuzzo is a character. His website is pediatric-orthopedics.com.
