I get an IV sponge which is like a piece of gauze but less "stringy" and it has a slit with a hole in the center that works GREAT around Julianna's button.  It is possible that it could have a yeast infection if its only been in a short time since he had it placed and typical ointments aren't working.  If you try all the suggestions and see no improvement..CHeck with your doc it might be yeast.

Try the balmex and then but a piece of gauze under the button against
the skin and change the gauze a few times a day...see if that helps.

Also you may want to try some bactram?
