My son, Phillip, is 3 and has mixed tone (low and athetoid).
He is now in public preschool where he receives lots of therapy. He can now sit up and crawl, and is working on learning to walk with a walker. It will probably be a year or more before he masters that, but we hope it will happen sooner. He is a smart boy and a real lovey--I wouldn't trade him for the world!
Best wishes with you and your son. Make sure you fight for as much therapy as you can get. Phillip received PT through early intervention but they denied OT and Speech. However, I wouldn't let up and they finally gave it all to him (one mom said she'd never heard of anyone getting it all before). I also took him for private PT once a week. The best time your child can get therapy is before the age of 3. It is critical he get as much therapy as possible while his brain is still developing...
Feel free to email me off-line. I have ovarian cancer and am preparing to start a second round of chemo on Tuesday, so it may take me a while to answer, but I'll get back to you.
Take care,
Mary

Any questions or comments you have: Our son was recently diagnosed
with Mixed CP. Although my husband and I had an idea something was
wrong, his diagnosis is still sinking in. He is currently receiving
PT/OT 1x/wk. Ismael started sitting at 15 months, but he cannot get
into a sitting position on his own. He does not roll or stand. My
heart breaks for my son when I see the frustration in his eyes, he
wants to move, but his arms betray him- They are weak and lack
coordination. Any thoughts on other treatments that I should look
into would be greatly appreciated. Is he too young to increase the
number of PT sessions he receives a week? Are there any parents in
the group who has a child with a similar CP diagnosis? If so, I would
be more than happy to read about what I have to look forward to in the
coming months and years. Thanks.
