I just joined this group and would like to introduce myself. My name
is LaVonda, and I am 25 years old. I am currently in a relationship
with a man who has CP.
I was raised around children who have disabilities, yet was never
fully informed of what CP is all about. However, now since I am in
this relationship I am trying to learn what I can. He has told me
that he was diagnosed with "mild" CP when he was a child, but I am
not sure if he is aware of what specific type of CP he has. I've
tried researching online, but the information I get varies from site
to site.
I am trying to gain an understanding of CP, that way I can get a
better understanding of him. He shows some of the signs, like
constant moving, balance issues, and more recently, I've noticed
the "tremors", or involuntary movement especially when he's trying
to sleep. He's a very intelligent man, however, he seems to have
problems concentrating on things at times.
I am not sure what to expect from this. However, any advice would be
helpful. Is there something I can do to help him deal with this,
making things easier for him? I know as an adult, there's not really
much that can be done considering the fact that he has lived 26
years with CP.
Sincerely,
LaVonda
