We have a Kansas City pediatric orthopedic surgeon that likes to use Botox injections to weaken the tighter muscles. When followed by exercise, the weaker muscles are given the opportunity to strengthen and allows the body to become more balanced. Botox usually lasts about three months or longer and then the muscles begin to get tight again. I would recommend you learn more about Botox therapy to determine if it is right for you (and/or your sister). I strongly urge you to continue working hard in your physical therapy sessions! There are a variety of physical therapy options, so if one is not working for you come up with other options. Our doctor often recommends martial arts to assist with balance, strength, and flexibility. Physical therapy in a warm swimming pool is another option. Do you have difficulty walking? If so, have you tried weight-bearing therapy using Litegait equipment straddling a treadmill to assist you? Be sure to play your favorite music so that you can keep beat with the music and sing along if you like too.
