My son Cody is 2 1/2 and still has trouble with signing. Although now he talks, but his therapists are teaching him also how to sign. I think it is hard to teach an infant to sign, but a therapist will certainly help. Cody has been seeing therapists since he was very young probably since about 3 months old, and they started trying to teach him sign, at about 12 months old, and like said he still has trouble, but he can do basic, "More" "No" etc. But if your child is not looking at you, I wonder does she have trouble tracking? We just went to a huge CP confrence this weekend, and one of the things they talked about was eye tracking and how a lot of doctors ignore vision and tracking in children with CP when it is very possible that there is an underlying problem with eyes. So that may be something else you want to find out maybe make an appointment to see an opthamologist. I forget the statistics they quoted but an obsene amount of
children with CP go for years with out anyone ever realizing there was a problem with the eyes. My son had ROP when he was born, so he is already followed closely by an opthamologist, other wise I probably would not connect one thing to the other. Just a suggestion. Good luck.

does any one have any ideas on how to help me get a 17 month to
learn. We are trying to teach her to sign but she does not even look
at us. Is that common? If any one has any answers please help.
Thanks, Amanda
