Hi Derrick,
I would say that having friends and your own mentors are very important when you're young. You can never make your disability go away but you can at least have a group of friends who understand. Your local Center for Independent Living might have a support group that could help you out .
The other important thing is to find something that you enjoy. This will help remind you who you are, as a person (without a disability). That would be my short answer.
Sincerely,
Chris Baty

Hello, my name is Derrick Harris and I'm 17 years old. I am in a power
wheelchair. I guess I joined this group to get some advice on how to
deal with my disability. When I was young I was ok with my disability,
but now I think about it all the time. I've asked teachers about this,
but I think I need to hear from others who are going through similar
situations. My teacher is helping me write this post.
