Greetings to all!

This is certainly the season of wet, slippery roads, which usually spells auto accidents for a lot of us. I have been taking in more new patients around this time of the year due to uato-related accidents, and I found out last Thursday that I am not immuned to them.

I was minding my own business at a stop light about to turn left. The 2000 Dodge Durango in front of me decided to back his vehicle to talk to someone in the vehicle to his right. Forgetting that he was still in reverse, when the light turned green, he slammed his bigger vehicle into my little 1996 Saturn wagon.

Personal Injury Protection, or what we call PIP in our profession, is part of your auto insurance policy. It is designed to take care of you immediately after an accident

PIP covers medical bills, a portion of your weekly lost wages, and for household care and cleaning. Your insurance company, by law, cannot cancel your policy for using your PIP. If you have not rejected PIP coverage in writing, then you are deemed to have it. Your insurance company, by law, cannot increase your insurance rates for using your PIP. PIP is no-fault, so it doesn't matter who caused the accident, you're still covered. There is no deductible and coverage is for 3 years or $10,000, which ever comes first. Some policies have higher limits. If you have coverage on your auto policy, yourmedical bills get paid on time and you can maintain your treatment schedule uninterrupted.

Step-By-Step Guide:
  • Call your insurance agent
  • Ask if you have PIP or MedPay (a version of PIP minus wage or loss of services coverage). If yes, ask about limits on time and dollar amount (3 years/ $10,000).
  • Ask your agent to take your Report of Loss claim
  • Ask your agent to phone in your report to the claims office
  • Ask your agent to call back with the claim number, address and phone number of the claims office
  • Call the claims office and get the name of the claims adjuster handling your claim
  • Ask the claims adjuster to mail a PIP Application, Attending Physician's Report and Salary Verification forms
  • Complete the PIP Application and return it to the claims adjuster
  • Have your employer complete the Salary Verification form and return it to you. Mail to the claims adjuster
  • Provide your claimk number and the adjuster's name, office address and phone number to all your Health Care Providers
  • Insturct your Health Care Providers to bill your PIP carrier directly

All I can say is that I am so glad I am with State Farm! :)

Good morning to ALL and Season's Greetings!

Tomorrow, Wednesday, December 10, a couple of firefighters will be arriving at my office to escort me to a mock jail cell at Armando's restaurant here in downtown Renton. I will be "locked up" for an hour starting at 10am. I am going to need "bail" money (money will benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association) to "get out of jail". The bail has been set at $1,575. Ack!

Please come visit me at Armando's and help me "get out of jail."

I will be providing complimentary seated massage to those who donate $25 or more. There will be refreshments and lots of good time! So please help me "get out of jail" tomorrow!

Your donation is 100% tax deductible and will help MDA continue its research into the causes of and cures for 40 neuromuscular diseases. Your support of the MDA Lock-Up will also help MDA provide wheelchairs, clinic visits and summer camps for people in our local area.

Armando's Cafe Italiano restaurant is located at 919 S 3rd St, Renton, WA 98055.

Hello!

I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that I will be out of the office from Nov 15 through Nov 30, returning to California for more Thai Massage training then a week-long (REAL) vacation. This vacation is long overdue (more than 5 years), and I am really looking forward to finally visiting Disneyland! On Thanksgiving Day, I have a dinner date with Shamu at SeaWorld in San Diego. What a treat!

Just a reminder that the week before I leave and the week after I get back are typically busy times, so please give my office a call to set up your appointment(s) early.

THE GOOD NEWS!

I have found a massage therapist who will take over while Tom is gone. His name is Gordon McWhirter, Jr. I met him last June when I held interviews for the massage therapist position. Gordon and I are in the process of putting together his schedule and will send that information out to you as soon as we get all the necessary paperwork completed and processed. Gordon will be a wonderful addition to Century Massage & Bodywork.

Hello!

Ever had something good going for a long time, and you just hope and pray that it keeps going? I guess I've had too much of a good thing that the Universe has decided to make things interesting for me from now on.

Here is my chance to expand and grow my massage therapy business. I've already moved into my new space, hired the staff, dotted my I's and crossed my T's. The office is not quite done yet, but I can work with what I have. The sheets I've ordered a month ago is only half in. The phone lines that was supposed to be in before I moved in is now being put in today. The receptionist I hired in September to start work in November didn't show up and now going with my "back up" choice. And last, but not least, the AWESOME massage therapist I hired (Tom) informed me on his first day of work that his status with the National Guard went active as of 11/1/03.

Tom and his wife has been gracious enough to help with putting the office together and helping whenever possible. THANK YOU!

The bright side of this whole thing is that I have time (2 weeks) to figure things out before leaving for California on the 15th. Any assistance in finding another massage therapist equaling Tom's experience, knowledge, and trustworthiness would be greatly appreciated.

If any of you would like to meet Tom before he ships out to "who-knows-where," you may call the office and set up appointments with him. I'm thinking of putting together a Bon Voyage party for him in the office before he leaves on 11/14. So stay tuned!

I have moved everything (sort of) in the new office space. I am in the process of getting a few more items for the reception, LMP wsorkstation, and the three therapy rooms and making sure that everyone feels relaxed and welcomed when they come in the new office. Please excuse the mess. We're still trying to put the finishing touches... :)

For those who would like to meet Tom and receive a massage from him, I will lower the price of an hour-long massage to $60 ONLY in the month of November. Good morning! Glad to be back home to SUNNY Seattle. :)

I was lucky enough to be in California this past weekend, when the Seattle area received a deluge of liquid sunshine. And because of that, Gary was taken off from finishing my suite to take care of leaks in the building along with the flooding outside the building. Gary informed me last night that the suite was not finished for me to move into this weekend and will take 3/4 of Monday to finish.

For those who wanted to help with the move, this will now be taking place whenever I don't have clients in the morning and mostly evenings (after 7pm). I have one friend who is going to help move the furnishings from my small office to the larger office Monday (10/27) night, while my colleague, Tom, will help with the reception desk and setting up the rooms the next day, getting the place ready for clients (hopefully) by 11/1. At that time, there will be two therapists working, myself and Tom. A third will be joining us most likely in December.

Here are the schedules for Tom and myself (Lyn) - by appointment only:
Lyn                                    Tom
Sun    OFF                                    OFF
Mon    8am - 6pm                          10am - 2pm
Tue     8am - 6pm                          10am - 2pm
Wed   8am - 6pm                           10am - 2pm
Thu     8am - 6pm                          10am - 6pm
Fri      8am - 6pm                           10am - 6pm
Sat     8am - 1pm                           10am - 6pm

As far as my trip to California, I am definitely honing in on Thai Massage. My teacher and the teacher's assistant have watched me worked with the students and have both told me that my form looks good and asked me if I were planning in teaching Thai Massage in the near future. They and a couple of the students have expressed that I was pretty good at teaching. We'll see what happens next year. :)

Please stay tuned within the next couple of days to find out more about the OPEN HOUSE of the new office space and to meet the CM&B staff. Snacks and drinks will be provided.

If you should have any question, please feel free to email or call the office.

Don't forget that regular massage therapy can help optimize your health. So don't wait until small aches and pains become serious. Please call the office today for an appointment.

Great news!!

Gary (the building handyman) will be going back to finish up the new office space starting this coming Monday. All that are needed to be done are painting the walls and cleanup. I should be able to move a few things by the end of the week, so that it will take only a weekend to move the rest in (i.e. furniture, equipment, supplies, etc). The BIG move is looking like Oct 25-26, just right after I get back from California. There is no rest for this busy bee.

So far, I have two willing individuals who have volunteered to help me with the heavy lifting of furniture and some setting up of the new office space. Another friend has volunteered her truck for the hauling of the reception and waiting area furniture.

What I am looking for (help) is someone to network three computers. I have attempted and failed in doing just that with my laptop and OLD desktop. I'll be setting another NEW desktop for the reception area, and this is going to be a nightmare when I need ALL three to print stuff to one printer/fax. Anyone out there who could help with the "linksys wireless network" system?

Those who help out with the move I am willing to do a trade. Thank you so much!

Wohoo! I am so excited! Plans for a Grand Re-Opening is slated to happen sometime next year, most likely January. We will have Open House days starting sometime in mid-November and part of December. I would like to ask my business network family (mostly Downtown Renton LeTip) to see if they could help out with the Grand Re-Opening and/or Open House days?

If you should have questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact me via email or call our office number. I hope to be seeing or hearing from you again soon!

Yes, Lyn will be out of town in Oct and Nov.

Please be advised that I will be re-taking the Thai Massage course in California. The first half is Oct 18-24. I will return Oct 25.

The second part will be in Nov along with a week's vacation. So I will be out of town again Nov 15-30.

Typically, the week before my departure and the week after I arrive fill up very quickly. By the first of November, Tom Huber will start his employment with Century Massage & Bodywork. You may either schedule with me or with Tom. He will certainly take good care of you in my absence.

It sure is nice to be back home!

It got too hot for me in California, though this year's weather was a
lot better than last year's. Thank goodness that I didn't burn at all
while I was down there. :)

The California Coast Classic this year took on 160 riders with only 3
massage therapists, which kept us pretty busy for 7 days straight. We started
massaging around 1PM until 10PM (sometimes 11PM) with only a few quick bathroom
breaks and dinner in the midst of the chaos. They are projecting that next
year's rider count would easily go to 200, so we should be better prepared with
at least 5-6 therapists on hand, but we'll see. :)

Well, I am back and ready to work on any of your who have missed me. :)
I'm also excited about getting the new office space spruced up by
November 1st. Tom, my newly hired massage therapist, will be taking on
clients as soon as he give me his schedule. It will most likely be from
10AM to 4PM starting November 1st.

I also would like to mention that in the months of November and December
2003, you'll receive $10 off the regular (non-medical) massage of at
least 1 hour in length when you bring 2 cans of non-perishable food
items. The canned goods will be donated to Northwest Harvest during this
Holiday Season.

Please call today and set up your appointments before you start feeling
the aches and pains of daily living. Remember, health is not the absence
of pain.

Hello!

It’s starting to get cooler now-a-days, and autumn is just around the corner! I do hope that everyone has enjoyed our record- breaking summer months!

Yes, I am in town for only 4 days (9/15 thru 9/18), and I will be back on the road from 9/19 thru 9/29. I do have a few massage slots open. They are as follows (1-hr sessions):

9/15:  10:45 am

9/16:  Booked but could squeeze in 9:30 am

9/17:  Booked

9/18:  Booked but could squeeze in 1:00 pm

I plan to be back 9/30, but since I am driving, it would just be safe to say that I will be back in my office 10/1.

Please call the office to set up your appointment for the any of the available time slots or for the next month.

Thank you for your continued support and hope to be working again with you soon.

Subject: UPDATE: Construction on the new office has begun!

My new best friend right now has got to be the building's handyman, Gary. He argued on my behalf with the building manager that he needed to start construction on my new office as soon as possible. There seem to be three projects (tenant improvements) that Gary has finish within a 2-3 month window, but since I'm the only one out of the three that has signed a new lease and has a floor plan put together, he argued why not get it started? Yep! He certainly is my buddy!

Gary informed me that the construction will take approximately 4 weeks. I am really hoping to have the new space ready for me to "phase in" sometime in mid-October so that I could slowly "phase out" the old office. I may need some help in moving and putting together new/old furniture in the new space. If anyone out there is interested in helping out and willing to do a trade, please come talk to me.

I'm so excited! This is finally happening after months of meetings over the business plan, the application process, and making sure business continue to run smoothly.

With construction going on in the basement (lower level), please excuse the noise in the next few weeks. I hope that your massage experience will be as relaxed as it has been in the past during construction.

If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call or email me. Thank you.

Great news!!

I have just acquired funding to go ahead with the business expansion. So far, I have signed a new contract with the building manager to go ahead and start the tenant improvement in the new (and bigger) office space. The official day of opening the new office space is slated for November 1st.

I have also changed my filing status with the state of WA in order to begin the hiring process for 2 LMPs and an office manager. Currently, I have one LMP in mind and seeking to find a second LMP and an office manager.

I certainly have a lot to do in the next few months, and I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you who have supported my business in the past 4 years. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! :)

Not to worry. With all the things that is going on, I will continue giving ALL my clients and patients THE BEST massage and OUTSTANDING customer service.

Tune in next month for more updates!

Century Massage & Bodywork's Financial and Payment Policies:

Financial Policy

Century Massage & Bodywork (CM&B) is implementing its Financial and Payment Policies in order to be clear and consistent in its dealings in the financial matters of the business. CM&B's source of income for operating expenses is the payments received from its patients and insurance payors for services received. In order to meet our goal, the hospital must remain in a sound financial position. We don't render services to collect money - but we must collect money to render services.

We need the support of our patients. By promptly meeting your obligations, we are better able to continue providing quality health care to the families of Western Washington.

Payment Policy:

  1. Payment is expected to be paid in full at the day of service. We are happy to accept cash, your check or a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) for payment of your session.
  2. We honor medical health insurance, within the First Choice Health Network, after verification.
  3. You must bring your current health insurance card with you each time you come to the office. This is very important. You may not appreciate the subtle changes your employer has made in your benefit plan that will be reflected on you insurance card. Bringing your card with you each visit is important for you and for us.
  4. If your insurance plan requires you to pay a "copay" for your visit with us, you must make that payment at the time of your visit. We are happy to accept cash, your check or a credit card (Visa or MasterCard) for payment of your copay. Be aware that most plans require a copay for each member of the family, so if you bring another member of the family with you, two or more "copay" amounts will be due.
  5. Payment of the amount you owe is due within 30 days of the date of the statement. If payment of your portion of the bill for which you are responsible is not made after the second statement has been sent, you will be contacted by our office to arrange payment. We send all overdue accounts promptly to our collection agency and the credit bureau is notified.
  6. Account balances between $400 and $1,000 - we will accept payment plans limited to four (4) months at length. The minimum acceptable monthly payment is $100.
  7. We accept Personal Injury, Workman's Compensation, and L&I claims.
  8. CM&B will limit its acceptance of third party insurance claims. This is usually an auto accident with the legal representation in which the case awaits settlement. CM&B will require a minimum payment of 30% of the cost of the day's service(s).

Other Policy Considerations:

The above policy specifies the desired payment arrangements. From time to time, exceptions will need to be made based on the patient's circumstances. It is our intention and goal to be respectful of the patient's financial condition.

By BOB BAUM, AP Sports Writer

STANFORD, Calif. - David Krummenacker, the world indoor 800-meter champion, looked awfully good for a runner who two days earlier thought he wouldn't even compete in the U.S. track and field championships.

AP Photo

Krummenacker injured his right hamstring in a workout Monday and canceled his flight from Tucson on Tuesday because he was so sore he could hardly get out of bed.

But his manager convinced him to make the trip to get some specialized treatment, and after some intense massage therapy and a trip to a specialist, Krummenacker felt good enough to cruise to a second-place finish in his 800-meter qualifying heat Thursday night.

"It really is kind of a miracle," Krummenacker said.

He said the tightness in the hamstring first showed up in a workout last Thursday, then was much worse Monday. Krummenacker had a breakthrough season in 2002 with a U.S. title, then grand prix victories in Paris and Rome. His No. 3 ranking was the best by an American since Mark Everett (news - web sites) was third in 1994.

With his world indoor title this year, Krummenacker became the first U.S. runner to win a gold medal in the 800 at a major international championship since Dave Wottle at the 1972 Olympics. The world outdoor title was Krummenacker's next goal, and he thought his whole season had evaporated.

"I sent e-mails to a lot of people on Tuesday telling him the world championships were out," he said.

He said he felt a little tightness in his hamstring after 200 meters, but after that was fine and now he's optimistic that his season of great promise is back on track.
