Mind Technology™

Providing Mind Skills that Unleash Your Potential

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! We did here in upstate New York. It was with banks of white snow, friends, family and lots of fun… and no cell phone service for a week; how did I survive? ;-) We will be back in Austin Monday night.

Everyone had great results at the Crystal Bowl Meditation for the Holidays last Sunday. People relaxed like never before and reported great insights and results. I forgot how much I so thoroughly enjoy doing these. They are such a wonderful exercise in surrender and allowing things to flow… for me, the engineer who likes to direct ;-) Some people filled out index cards with their experiences. I will post these soon and let you know. I had a few people ask me about providing them monthly and will let you know when this is scheduled.

Yesterday holds no presence in today. You are children of the moment.

What we are saying is that the guilt you carry, yes and the regret you
carry are not part of this moment in time and you are presently here,
so the past has no bearing on this moment. None.

Divorce, relationship issues, life and the turning points within it
are often unexpected and never put off until a better time when
expected, because they always come when you don't expect them - but
that does not change the occurrence of the event. You have to decide
how you will deal with them.

If you have lost a loved one you will draw upon the example we will
bring forth to you. No matter how well you prepare yourself, when that
moment arrives, there in nothing you can do.

You stand before the universe and see and events unfold that is out of
your control. And when a death occurs all you can do is walk-away,
empty handed and empty-armed. For you come into this knowing world
alone and so shall you leave it.

All you have are your memories and your thoughts, or so you think.
What you have in actuality is all the lines of your forefathers and
all the lines of your families standing in that moment of 'instant
spiritual awareness'.

You can choose how well you deal with something. Life is so very
precious. Love each moment, cling to life as you would a lovers arms.
Take each day to allow yourself the adventure of discovery.

Do we walk alone

The variances of perceptions - that said, what does it mean?

I went to several churches when I started my search for a church
family. I met the ministers and sat in the congregation and observed.
Then I made a choice. Over time I will see how that choice works out -

The other day, well yesterday, Sunday, while in church, the minister,
Carol, spoke. I enjoy Carol. Her body and her face are alive with the
celebration and appreciation of life. She is one of those people you
meet that just makes you smile. We all have met someone like this.
They have that rare gift of pulling you in and making you feel
connected to something, more, spiritually aware. I started going to
the church because of Carol. Mostly the women in my life have been
anything less than role models of the art of nurturing.

As always I approached her as I do anyone else - suspiciously and
apprehensively. Having the career I have and seeing the range of human
behaviors I have I am somewhat jaded when it comes to the purity of
the human heart.

But during our first conversation I just laid it all out for her.
Here's who I am and here's what I am about. She smiled, nodded and
shared intimacies of her life. We bonded. Carol is like the proverbial
mother hen. She protectively puts her congregation under her wing and
provides them with shelter. I can honestly say she is one of first
females to remain consistent in her approach to life that I have
known. I respect her. I like her.

Not too long I left the church. There is one assistant minister that I
just do not resonate with. When I go to church I want to feel good.
Selfish, right? But, so what. I mean seriously, who wants to go to
church to get depressed?

I think feeling good is what church is about. It is about being
inspired, being uplifted, and getting that connection to something
spiritual. For a couple of Sundays, back to back, this other minister
got up and went on about this and that, paused, and looked pious. She
took the dramatic pause and really worked at making the sermon - that
daily message significant. Half way through I just wanted to hang
myself out of despair.

Church to me is like Thanksgiving with the family. You know there will
always be that one family member that drinks too much, eats too much,
talks too much and alienates everyone but you get along. So come
Sunday you just get along and make nice.

The sermon would start wonderfully and I'd think, WOW. This is going
to be great. Then she'd turn that dark corner of despair. Her voice
would become soft, introspective and wounded. By the time I left all I
wanted to do was take 2 xanax and go to bed. Everyone says she is new,
young, she is leaning, she is sweet when you get to know her wait a
second isn't the ministorial staff the ones that are suppose to make
you feel welcome? I mean isn't that why they are there? Maybe I'm
missing something here but. So, I left for several months.

The day I decided to come back Carol's radiant face smiled as I turned
the corner of the hall and I truly felt like I'd come home.

So, why do we have strong likes and dislikes? I know the answer. I
work with clients each day regarding those matters of likes and
dislikes. It is because at some level we are being shown an unhealed
or unforgiven part of our own inner-self. When I go to church I want
it to be wonderfully peaceful, truly and sincerely welcoming and just
a nice day off.

For me, it is not wanting to parent, teach, guide or even take the
time to understand someone else who is becoming something that they
are suppose to have a calling to become all this other assistant
minister has done is just blow me off and I'm assuming that if I was
to fain delight at her talents or demeanor then perhaps I would be
some how significant. So, now I view her as that one family member who
comes each Thanksgiving.

In the past recent years I have been with those who have died of AIDS
and cancers. I have held them literally in my arms as they have
passed, with their head on my chest, looked reassuring in their eyes
and later helped bag their body when the funeral director came. I have
watched loved ones and family try to make sense of something that you
just can't make sense out of.

I have seen healthy people become bed-ridden, incontinent and cry for
death to take them. In the end all of them have come to reach out to
God. At times my soul has ached, been pained and darkened because I
know there is nothing, absolutely nothing you can do, but watch and
wait. Being there.

Being there and being kind, being lovingly tender and never letting
them see your own fear or concern. During moments like these you put
your big boy pants on and deal with it. It is not about you, it is not
about your feelings you are there for them, to be strong, to be
nurturing and sensitive to their needs and wants.

My ads run in various publications and I get calls from all around the
country and at the most unwanted times from England and abroad (time
zone differences). Sometimes I will get calls back to back, and at
other times the phone line is just dead nothing. There is no
telling. But when it rings it rings. Like with most things in life the
calls come in clusters.

I hear people talk about victimization, abuse, addictions, and
relationship issues. Some cry, some yell and some are just off the
wall. But all in all, they just want a moment of connection. They want
someone to care. They simply want to matter.

Church is my place to become lost in the pleasure of hearing the word,
the message and just to experience the community. Just to be a person
reconnecting to spirit. Now toss in being gay. Prejudice is something
that still exists. There are those who are tolerant because it is
fashionable, there are those who are tolerant because they need to
prove their own level of liberalism and there are those who will just
genuinely like you. Religion is a strange bird. Liberalism at times
breeds its own level of pseudo-conservatism. Believe like us or else.

But back to this last Sunday. Carol spoke about this wonderful song,
In the Garden, we all have heard it. "He walks with me, and he talks
with me, and he tells me that I am his own. And the joy we share as
we terry there, none other has ever known" It is a lovely song.

How this came about is that she had been to a seminar where a man
spoke about his belief in God, and another man then spoke about being
an agnostic. In the short of it all the lecture was about if there was
a God or not the one fellow said that God does not violate the human
experience and most importantly that in the heart of all lies good intent.

It seems that there was a woman present during that lecture that had
been molested by her father when she was young. At one point the one
speaker started saying the lines of song. He motioned to the group as
he started to sing the words. Soon the group joined in and they too
started to sing. Soon all you could hear was the silence of the song.

Afterward is when the agnostic man gave his reply. It was at the
closing that the woman who had been molested went to the fellow and
told him and I am paraphrasing "I was molested by my father for
years. Afterward I would go out in the yard and walk, and sing that
song. That song was the only thing that gave me hope and got me
through those dark days. The next time you doubt God, think about what
I just shared with you." This woman had enduring faith - a blessing of
belief.

Carol, then, on this last Sunday, began to slowly say the words of the
song. Her sweet voice gently sang the words of the song. She motioned.
People began to softly sing and a collective voice began to sing, "He
walks with me, and he talks with me, and he tells me that I am his
own. And the joy we share as we terry there, none other has ever
known" and then there was silence. The woman in front of me was
crying. It was that moment I too remembered the blessings God has
given me.

There are moments of in our life that are synchronistic and that are
based on variances in perceptions. Silly, isn't it? That it all comes
down to perceptions and why we feel the way we feel.

For me I am, what I am, and I am how God made me, disposition and
all. I can try to modify myself to a certain point, I can try to be
patiently understanding but in the end we are each who we are. That
makes us either successfully decently good people or not. There will
always be someone who has something to say about you. There will
always be someone who doesn't like you, for this reason or that
reason. What it comes down to is do you like yourself?

Remember you are not walking in the garden alone. None of us are.
There will be moments of deep personal challenges. But it is our faith
in our God and that `simple something' that is larger than ourselves
that keeps us connected to our humanity. We are the keepers of each
others wounds and souls. It is how we learn to go beyond our own
limitations and fears that truly matter.

Find that message that makes you reconnect to your faith.

Find time to explore your personal garden.

Pay It Forward Program

I loved that movie ‘Pay It Forward’ but the ending was so sad; I guess it was necessary but…

Our opportunity whenever anything goes awry in life is to go within first and to allow our responses to come from that Inner Wisdom that Knows ALL and Is ALL. Currently there is a lot of fear in the news and in peoples’ minds about money. This is creating a mass consciousness that could take us in a bad direction, individually and collectively. This is a time to remember that We ALL are in charge. And especially each of us is in control of our response to our life events. When we respond from our Inner Wisdom then we unleash our Inner Power to cause our life to go in a desired direction.

Since all of the classes I teach, groups I lead and events I do are focused on helping people to, at a minimum, touch that Infinite Potential inside… I am offering a helping hand in the Spirit of the Holy-Days. A list of upcoming events with their purpose and discounts is below.

Be sure to join me on Dec 21st for a Crystal Bowl Guided Imagery Meditation for the Holidays.

My current calendar, times and locations are at my blog at www.CuriousMindNews.com.

Through December 31, 2008 I am offering discounts to assist people in these troubled economic times to discover the hidden opportunity that is lying within. The appearance of tough times is just a sign to learn some new life skills in order to live a better life. By practicing new skills you learn that you are in charge of the most important moments of your life: when an event happens you have the choice to respond from your Inner Power or to react from your past. This choice lays the path for the unfolding events.

All payments are due by Dec 31, 2008 and some offer increased discounts if paid by December 21st. Financing is available for all my classes through an interview process and is based on retail price.

"How many years of suffering
revealed in hands like his
small and deliberate as a child's

The way he raises them

Yet full of anticipation

What is it about us that fuels over-eating, over-spending, demands
for perfection? Spend an evening exploring the archetypal energy of
greed as expressed in Ovid's tale of Erysichthon and in Jung's
understanding of hunger. Both sources give us a chance to find out
more about ourselves and the power and consequences of unmet desire.

Mary Burke, LCSW is a diplomate Jungian Analyst, recently graduated
from the Inter-Regional Society of Jungian Analysts. Greed: Hunger
and Individuation was her thesis topic. Mary has been in private
practice in Austin since 2001, and prior to that time, worked at the
Counseling and Mental Health Center at the University of Texas.

*********
-37th Street Xmas Lights

For a block of Austin's 37th Street each year, enthusiastic residents
let loose the gates of restraint and go all out to decorate their
houses and yards and even the street with one of the most dynamic
community Christmas light displays in the Lone Star State. And this
year is no exception.

It's been going on now for more than 20 years and started when one of
the neighborhood residents hung a row of lights across a tree in the
front yard and started adding to the display every year. It has grown
to be one of the more dramatic examples of lighting creativity in the
world, with residents sticking lights in every tree, across roof
lines to the houses next door. Cars and curb lines and sidewalks and
figurines have been lighted. Even pets and the residents themselves
have been known to adorn themselves with twinkling lights to stand in
the yard as thousands walk by to appreciate their creative minds and
the handiwork of their desperate efforts to become the most decorated
block in Texas.

Getting There
If you are coming by way of I-35, exit at 38th Street and go west.
Once you hit Speedway, you might want to start looking for a parking
space (remember--no left turn onto Speedway). Try turning on to Cedar
(first left after Speedway). If you are coming by way of MoPac, exit
at 35th Street and go east. 35th becomes 38th. Once you get to
Guadalupe, you might try turning right, getting onto a side street,
and looking for a parking space.

You can drive the street or walk it. The best way, by far, to
experience these displays of lights is to park nearby and walk along
the sidewalk; that way you can more fully appreciate the weirdness
and creativity that resides in the details. (Just ignore any smoke
hanging in the air near the bigger displays.)

The Trail of Lights Opens Sunday, December 14th and runs nightly
through December 23rd, 7pm - 10pm. http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/tol/

It is a continuous 1.25 mile long display of 41 lighted scenes, and
special features including Santa's House, Santa's post box, a giant
Yule Log, a crafts fair, food and beverage stands, a holiday train
ride and two stages of entertainment.

Named in the Top Ten Holiday Lightings by USA Today, the Trail of
Lights Festival is a wonderland of light painted on the canvas of
nature. This annual holiday tradition is celebrated in Austin's
beloved Zilker Metropolitan Park, 2100 Barton Springs Road.

For more information, look for our Trail Guide in the Austin American
Statesman on December 4th, call (512) 974-6700 or e-mail. For ADA
accommodations call (512)974-4038. For inclement weather closures
call (512)974-4020 for a recorded message. The Trail of Lights is
generously supported by hundreds of volunteers, City of Austin staff,
and our sponsors.

The Festival begins with the Zilker Tree Lighting, a 155 feet tall,
180 feet diameter lighted man-made tree consisting of 3,309 bulbs on
39 streamers strung from Austin's historical Moonlight Tower. Since
1987, the honor of lighting the tree has been bestowed upon the
winner of the city-wide children's tree coloring contest. The tree
lighting ceremony takes place on the first Sunday of December.

The following Saturday, a 5k Run provides registrants with a sneak
preview of the Trail of Lights. The Trail of Lights Parade, on
December 14th, opens the Trail of Lights opens with pomp and ceremony
featuring large scale puppetry, music and Santa's sleigh.

Over 300,000 visitors experienced the Trail of Lights and the Zilker
Tree in 2007.

History The festival, originally known as Yule Fest, began in 1965 by
Mrs. Alden Mabel Davis and former Parks and Recreation Director
Beverly Sheffield as a holiday gift from the Parks and Recreation
Department to the citizens of Austin and its visitors. The first
display, "The Twelve Days of Christmas", was initially set up in
Zilker Park and still holds a prominent location on the Trail every
year.

The first festival lasted four days and consisted of a candlelight
path, dance performances, a live nativity scene, and the Yule log. In
1967 the Zilker Tree, the "World's Largest Man-made Tree", made its
first appearance at the festival.

Through the years the festival continues to grow and long lasting
traditions, such as the trail of lighted displays, a 5K run, the
Zilker Tree lighting, an Opening Night Parade sustain the holiday
memories of thousands of families. In 1992, the festival was renamed
the Trail of Lights.

The resilience needed to absorb hard times can be provided by regional
loyalty currencies.  Why isn't anybody doing it, then?

In fact, they are:

- 300 businesses in Berkshire County, Massachusetts accept Berkshares (launched on   September 29, 2006).
- 600 businesses in South East Bavaria accept the Chiemgauer (launched in 2003)
- 60,000 businesses in Switzerland accept the Swiss WIR (launched in 1934 by 16 businessmen)

The Swiss WIR was created in response to the scarcity of credit during
the depression. The WIR is responsible for the economic resilience of
the Swiss economy.

Collective responses for economic relocalization are springing up like
mushrooms in Austin. This could have a positive impact on  very small
businesses, which are particularly vulnerable during economic
downturns. Brian Kelsey, economic development coordinator for the
Capital Area Council of Governments, is quoted in this week's Austin
Chronicle: "businesses with fewer than 10 employees experienced
negative growth in 2001, which implies they may have been
disproportionally hurt when the last recession hit."

This downturn may not be a "normal" recession, but a symptom of the
collapse of economic models that no longer work because they're not
sustainable. Our economic assumptions may be transformed over the next
months. It's time to explore alternatives. This is the first in a
series of discussions that will consider solutions for the next
economy.

Bring a covered dish or drinks, plates, etc. and join fellow weekend
economic warriors to talk, learn, and plan.

Onsite childcare available.

Please see the instructions below for figuring out how to comply to this:

Yahoo has dictated that all members of any group must have a

Happy Thanksgiving to you, your friends and family,

Oprah talked a lot to her audience about keeping a gratitude journal where morning and night you write down what you are grateful for. Spiritually, giving thanks is blessing what you have. When you give thanks for what you have, they say, you receive more of what you want. Jose Silva talked about energy channels and that we have the ability to tune our minds to the ‘channel’ for what we want. Tuning our minds is our job. Consider that giving thanks by speaking it or writing it is the very act of tuning your mind to the ‘receiving channel’… and then just enjoy having the life you want and more so…

Bask in the love of being surrounded by those you love.

Thank you for being in my life.

Happy Thanksgiving to you. Love, Lamar

I was writing something and kept recalling that famous quote by Marianne Williamson that Nelson Mandela read at his inaugural speech “Our deepest fear”. This is at my blog at www.curiousmindnews.com. I was guided to reword it to create a statement of truth that I could read. Maybe you will read this often so that we can all tune our minds to who we truly are. This is how we affect global change and turn the tumultuous times around.

Here it is: Adapted from quote by Marianne Williamson:

My deepest knowing is that I am more than adequate. My deepest knowing is that I am powerful beyond measure. It is my light, not my darkness, that inspires my life. I claim God’s Truth for my life: I am brilliant, gorgeous, talented and fabulous. How can I not be as a child of God? Playing small in the past has never worked. I now play large to serve the world. My expansive consciousness allows those around me to feel secure and powerful. I am meant to shine as all God’s children do. I am born to manifest the glory of God that is within me. It’s in me; it’s in everyone. As I let my light shine I have given other people permission to do the same. As I am liberated from fear and embrace personal freedom my presence automatically liberates others.

Part of the human condition is to feel and to love. That means
expressing those feelings. Michel often-times communicates through
prose...

Another on love.

Do I remember love

And how it feels to know
that there is only ONE
the one that ignites
compassion, resentment and bliss

Ah, to remember love

To know its healing kiss
moist and filled with promise
to hear sounds that only comes with lies
heart racing joy then release

To feel love

Its sweetness like honey
dipped in moments of sweat filled dew
that turn to night
and lingers among the stars dark sky

To lay wanting and in love

Reaching out to find only memories
turning in the coolness of night
to find empty linens
that hold no further pleasure

To forget love

When it is all but impossible
to push it from your mind
your lifetimes and your hopes
then to awaken suddenly to its recall

To die for love

With each breath you take
assured that there will never be
another who can ignite such passion
lifetimes pass with echoes of what was

Then for love

You realize that it comes
when its not wanted
least expected
and leaves under those same conditions

For love

Can not be held in words
or promises
It lives freely within the soul

Ah, To love

Michel
