**Thought that Counts Quote:
"The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious. It is
the source of all true art and science. He to whom the emotion is a
stranger, who can no longer pause and stand wrapped in awe, is as
good as dead; his eyes are closed." ~Albert Einstein
*Affirmation: I embrace the mystery of life.
**Meditation
Dear God, Whenever I think I have life figured out, something new and
exciting and unexpected happens and I realize that every change I go
through changes everything.
I open myself to the mystery of Your presence.
I offer my heart as a place for Love to live and grow.
I offer my life as a vehicle for Your peace.
So it is! Amen

****Background info: The Network of Spiritual Progressives is an
organization devoted to challenging the misuse of religion, God and
spirit by the Religious Right, challenging the many anti-
religious and anti-spiritual assumptions and behaviors that
have increasingly become part of the liberal culture. As stated in
the NSP website (www.spiritualprogressives.org/), "We want a society
that promotes rather than undermines love and generosity, kindness
and caring, peace and nonviolence, recognition of the spirit of God
in each other human being, joy and pleasure in life, humility and
social responsibility, recognition of the Unity of All Being,
recognition of our interdependence with all other people on the
planet and with the wellbeing of the planet itself, and awe and
wonder at the grandeur of creation. We call this a New Bottom Line
to distinguish it from the current Old Bottom Line of money and
power."

What exactly is a Bardo retreat?
The word `bardo means `intermediate state between death and rebirth'
but in reality, bardos are occurring continuously throughout both
life and death. They are powerful opportunities of charged potential,
when whatever you do in those "heightened" moments has far-reaching
effect. The greatest and most charged of these moments, of course, is
the moment of death.
The wisdom of the Buddha says we can actually use our lives to
prepare for death. We do not have to wait for the painful death of
someone close to us or the shock of terminal illness to force us into
looking at our lives. Through memoir, movement and performance art
and theatre/performance techniques, we practice what Buddhist master
Sogyal Rinpoche's urges when he says that "We can make every moment
an opportunity to change and to prepare---wholeheartedly, precisely,
and with peace of mind---for death and eternity."
So what happens at these retreats?
Everything is experiential. You utilize your imagination and your
innate abilities to play and create with your body, voice, memory,
writing and movement. Each bardo has a different "focus."
There are four different bardo retreats. Do you have to participate
in one before you can join a different one?
No. Just like living and dying, we all come and go at our own "time."
And just like it takes no previous experience to do either, you just
have to show up and then courageously make "presence" out of your
participation.
The Bardo explorations are seasonal to correspond to the four Tibetan
bardos: The Bardo of Dying (fall),
The Bardo of Death (winter), The Bardo of Becoming (spring) and The
Bardo of Living (summer).
