China's Wudang Monks Visit Austin - Performances, Workshops & More   Message List

From July 11th-16th, 2006, the world acclaimed thirty member delegation of
Taoist
monks from Mount Wudang Monastery in China (of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
fame)
will be in Austin, Texas on a special cultural mission.

The monks, both men and women, will perform their world famous Taoist martial
arts and
ceremonial music, complete with swords, costumes and traditional Chinese
instruments.
Their main performances will be at Akins High School Performing Arts Center in
south
Austin on Saturday, July 15th, at 2:00pm and 8:00pm.

While in Austin, the monks will also be performing blessing ceremonies at the
Texas State
Capitol Building and Barton Springs, presenting lectures on Taoism, and teaching
workshops on Taoist music, drawing talismans, Wudang Kung Fu, Wudang Qigong,
Wudang Taiji, Wudang Sword, and Wudang Nei Dan (Inner Alchemy) Meditation. They
will
also be available for I-Ching consultations, Feng Shui readings.

Their visit is part of a special religious and diplomatic delegation to share
the cultural arts
of Taoism, China's native religion, with the United States, and to present their
unique
combination of martial arts, music and meditation to the Western audience.
