I saw the surgeon yesterday. He was an older gentleman, very
nice,very knowlegeable,took time to answer my questions,had a good
sense of humor too. The last surgeon I saw was very young and
coldnt answer me about the gallbladder working and if the enlarged
spleen and liver could affect surgery,he only took parts out is what
he said. Im having pre op on Mon. and surgery on Wed.and he will
keep me overnight with all the allergies I have and 6 kids waiting
at home! He thinks Ive had the mono for the last 3 yrs and thats
why the spleens been enlarged that long. He also said that on PET
scans overactivitiy can show up in elevated suv's. He will refer me
to a good gp and help me get through this. Im on the right
diet, since I get sick when I eat a mashed potato and plain
turkey, the gallbladder needs to be removed and I will probaly be
better afterwards for eating again. Here is what the report said:
Images of the liver demonstrate normal echogenicity. There is mild
abnormal dilation of the extrahepatic bile duct which measures 7 mm
in diameter. Small gallstones are demonstrated. There is no abnormal
gallblader wall thickening or pericholecystic fluid. The pancreas is
predominatntly obscured by overlying bowel gas.
The right kidney measures ll.7cm in length. The left kidney measures
l2.9 cm in length. The spleen is enlarged measuring l4.4 cm in
length. No focal splenic lesions are demonstrated. No ascites is
demonstrated. The abdominal aorta is normal in caliber.
1. Cholelithiasis. No abnormal gallbladder wall thickening or
pericholecystic fluid.
2. Mild abnormal dilation of the extrahepatic bile duct which
measures 7 mm. in diameter. Correlation with signs and symptoms of
biliary obstruction is requested. The etiology of this mild
extrahepatic biliary ductal dilation is not demonstrated.
3. Splenomegaly.
I will be glad to have this out. He will do it through 3 small
holes,he said 99% come out that way, once in awhile if a patient
bleeds too much or there is an obstruction, more cutting is
necessary. Thank you for helping me and for the prayers and support.
Take care. Lynne
