It is early to prepare for the next Library committee meeting, scheduled for
Thursday November 10th at 6:30 EST in Safety Harbor FL., but here are some
suggested items:
1. review of ICD-11 and TCM terminology and inclusion.
2. Policy on library use by nonstudents, alumni and the public in general.
3. Document on evaluation points for site visits.

I have not yet been able to hook the library group to the ccaom.net yet. i hope
it will be done soon.

suggestions for items to discuss are welcome.

If you are not familiar with the Ovid Medical database you might like to look at
it. Of particular interest is support for Chinese medicine. I have provided two
links:

1. the Ovid home page
http://www.ovid.com/site/index.jsp?top=1

2. An article about OvidChinese:
http://www.ovid.com/site/about/press_release_083111_ovidch.jsp?top=42&mid=52

perhaps participation via subscription or license purchase could be an action
taken by the LCAOM as a group and a step to consortium development

Sounds very cool. Especially that they work with the some of the bigger TCM publishers. It would be great if they covered English-language titles from these Chinese publishers as well…

I am assembling a report on library security options and I’d like to get an idea of what security systems (if any) are being used by other acupuncture schools. I have created a poll on the yahoogroup here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/ccaomlcaom/surveys?id=3065979, or you can reply through email. Any thoughts or opinions on academic library security is deeply appreciated, this is a completely new area for me.

What security system is used in your library?

·          No security system, because it is unnecessary

·          RFID system with gates

·          Tattle strips

·          Security strips with gates

·          Security cameras

·          No security system, but plan on adding one in the future

I appreciate your responses!

at five branches we do not use a security system due to considerations that security would not be cost effective vs replacement costs for stolen items

Another idea! You may want to read a bibliographic essay found in "Choice":

A History of Healing Therapies: Western, Eastern, and Alternative Approaches
Clair G Wood
Choice; Oct 2010; 48, 2; General Interest Module
pg.219

For example, it lists some online resources like MedHist: The Guide to History of Medicine Resources on the Internet, and more. Most of it are books though.

Another idea! You may want to read a bibliographic essay found in "Choice":

For example, it lists some online resources like MedHist: The Guide to History of Medicine Resources on the Internet, and more. Most of it are books though.

I have – it looks very cool! Unfortunately, a lot of the historical work students do is about Europe or Asia, not the Americas…

I also know about the History of Medicine subset in PubMed, but if anyone has any other suggestions as well, it would be much appreciated!

Try Pub Med, Search History of Medicine. There ishttp://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=history%20of%20medicine You can then limit it to History of Medicine, English or number of years, etc.

Hi Jim, Info for the LCAOM meeting

I want to announce the Availability of the Pacific Symposium Archival Collection from 1989 to 2004 of audio lectures on CD and DVD format.  This famous conference is hosted by the Pacific College of Oriental Medicine annually.  World leaders Speak at the Symposium.  It is a great collection to have in your library.  Some of the OM Libraries have partial years, and may wish to fill in their collection.  The lectures were previoulsy on audocassettes, which no one uses any longer, so we converted them to CD and DVDs,

Interested librarians should contact me and we will follow-up with order and pricing information later.

I can be reached at nbroering@...
When I get a flyer and list of the presentations ready, I will send it
