Della,

I am sorry I was unable to attend the meeting.

Della, Can you please send me via e mail the documents on the Journal list and survey.  I never received any of them.

I am currently working on a journal list and do need to include this.

Or, at least tell me where I can go to get the documents.

Thanks

Naomi

Dear group,

Please find below highlights from the recent LOOM meeting in Colorado.  The unapproved minutes from the meeting have been posted on the CCAOM LOOM site in the Files area.

Please email the group with any questions.  It was a great meeting -- LCD projector malfunction aside.

Best to you all,
Della

Reports on Current Initiatives
Name Change.  Upon discussion and vote at this meeting, the Committee chooses to change its name from Librarians of Oriental Medicine (LOOM) to Libraries of Colleges of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (LCAOM). We have sought endorsement from CCAOM's Executive Committee for this change.

WORKING GROUP REPORTS
A. Membership
CCAOM Library Contact Directory.  Began an update of the 2005 Directory of CCAOM Libraries with contact information for key library staff and links to library catalogs.  This directory has been posted on the LOOM/LCAOM Yahoo Group. The Committe circulated a copy of the 2005 Library Directory, asking school's check their school's entry assuring that the person responsible for the library and at most one other key member of your staff appear in your entry and that their emails are correct.
- Continued thanks for creating this directory go to Jim Emdy, Five Branches, Virginia Rodes, Tai Sophia, and Della Lawhon, New England School of Acupuncture.
YAHOO Group. Once the directory is updated with corrections a promotions email will go out to encourage schools to have their library staff join the Yahoo Group.
- Thank you to David Sale, CCAOM for his management of the Yahoo Group.

B. Collection Development
Journals. Two separate documents have been received by the LOOM/LCAOM to help identify journals appropriate for CCAOM school libraries.   The first received last year was a survey of journals held in member schools' libraries; the second is a spreadsheet of proposed journals that would constitute a basic collection.  The Committee requested financial support in the amount of $500 to update and complete the school library survey, to develop journal selection criteria, and to gather more information on journals to enable schools to evaluate the appropriateness of each resource for their library: this project if funded will be completed and available in 6 months.
UPDATE: the executive committee accepted the proposal.
    - Many thanks to Warner Seem, Tri-State College of Acupuncture and Claudia O'Neill,  Institute of Taoist Education, Inc.

Electronic Resources: The Committee received a report at the LOOM/LCAOM meeting of electronic resources.  If time allows, the funds requested previously would extend to expanding the report on selected databases and electronic resources.
- Thanks again to Warner Seem, Tri-State College

C. Entry Level Standards and CCAOM Libraries
The Committee discussed the role the library plays relevant to
Collections and information management
Faculty support
Training in information literacy and critical thinking for faculty and students
National education standards in place for library in higher education
Entry Level Standards for First Professional Doctorate for AOM

D. New Initiatives
Proposal to finalize and synthesize journal survey and subscription resources.  If funded this resource will be complete by September 2006, posted on the Yahoo Group for review and revision.

Renewed commitment to develop LOOM/LCAOM Mission Statement and history of the committee. We will have a draft ready  for review at Fall LOOM/LCAOM meeting: Wendy Matus, Eastern School of Acupuncture and Traditional Medicine & Della Lawhon, NESA

Collection Management subcommittee has a new member: Roberta Santo, PIHMA.  Della will contact.

Yahoo Group promotion will follow meeting to build participation and share library reports and resources.  Della Lawhon, NESA

At this conference's strategic planning meeting, LCAOM was asked to provide information about available resources for libraries to consider for purchase.

At the CCAOM Business Meeting Paul Karsten, Seattle Institute of Oriental Medicine, asked LCAOM to write a response to the accreditation standard ER 11.

Meeting ended at 5:00pm

Attendees:
Mary Able, Instittute of Taoist Education and Acupuncture
Lynn Deen, Dragon Rises College of Oriental Medicine
Amy Kahn, Phoenix Institute of Herbal Medicine and Acupuncture
Della Lawhon, New England School of Acupuncture (Chair)
Shen Ping Liang, American College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

There is now a link to the Five Branches Institute OPAC Library from
the Five Branches home page at http://www.fivebranches.edu. Click on

Hello CCAOM Librarians and fans of CCAOM libraries,

It's time to plan the upcoming meeting which will be held in Phoenix
at the Wigwam Resort on Wednesday, October 18 from 1:30 to 5:00PM. I
hope many of you will be coming and attending our meeting.

In addition to reviewing LCAOM's minutes from the May 2006 meeting --
which you can find here on the Yahoo group in the files area --
there are some other topics we may want to include.

Jim Emdy has been working diligently on his OPAC and I think a lot
of us would like to hear about his project. (Jim thank you for
sharing links to your catalog here on the forum!)

CCAOM's Entry-level Doctorate Committee has asked me to give a
report on Thursday on and I would like to share my findings with you
before I do so with the broader CCAOM committee.

Please let us know if there is anything you'd like to include in our
meeting.

We need to finalize our agenda by the beginning of next week (Oct 2).

See you in Phoenix,
Della

Hi Naomi,

The original document Warner provided to LCAOM is attached. At the

done. That's what was posted on the Yahoo Group. The selection
criteria and sources for journal info are listed in the document LCAOM

through the steps to download the LCAOM Journal Review. You can
locate this file in the Files section on this Yahoo Group in a folder
there called LCAOM Journal Review. Also there are the selection
criteria used when determining whether to include a journal in this
spreadsheet as well as a list of subscription agents.

Hi Naomi,

I replied in vmail and a separate email to the first part of your
message below.

In your message, you ask
"Please tell me more about the new AOM Library Report process. I
know nothing about this, and need to be informed. Who should I
contact?"

Are you referring to the entry-level doctoral program initiatives?
I'll be in the office tomorrow. If you want to call me we can talk
about that which might speed things along -- faster and clearer than
email that is.

For more clarification, you may want to also look at the minutes
from LOOM/LCAOM meetings which are posted on the Yahoo group in the
File section.

on building our holdings. Does anyone know of a recommened book list
for different topics such as herbs, acupuncture, etc. I could use
some help deciding which books are key and essential books for our
library to carry so I can put together a development plan.

Dear All,
I'm also looking for just such a suggested book list. Up to now we've used the NCCAOM suggested books per module as our only 'list'.
thanks,

Dear all,

What a wonderful experience I have had the last 4 years working with you.

I wanted to write and let you know that I have left NESA to focus on
my private practice which has grown despite my ignoring it. My last
day at NESA was Jan 19th, and I'm already seeing patients 6 days a
week in my office -- and loving it!

One of the wonderful staff in NESA's library has accepted the position
of Library Manager and is doing a great job.

LOOM / LCAOM has accomplished a number of things not the least of
which is building community. I've spoken with David Sales about my
stepping down as LCAOM Committee Chair and I know if you have ideas
for the group that he would welcome your call or email.

I wish for all of you abundant health, peace, ...and unlimited book
budgets!

If I can be of help to you or your organizations, please don't hesitate
to contact me.

BTW: in terms of a basic book list... seems to me this would be a
great project to work with the newly formed national association of
AOM teachers and with other CCAOM committees. David may have some
ideas or this could be brought up at the next meeting.

My very best to you all,
Della

Dear LCAOM Committee Members:
As you know,Della Lawhon, the former committee chair, resiged her
postion at NESA to pursue full-time AOM practice. The Council's
Executive Committee solicited applications for the chair position and
was recently pleased to appoint Jim Emdy, the librarian at Five
Branches, as the new committee chair. I do apologize for not notifying
the committee of this appointment sooner but I mistakenly thought I had
notified the full Council. The LCAOM Yahoo Group is the most active
among the Council's Yahoo groups and your interest and work is to be
applauded. Thank you also for supporting Jim in his new leadership
role.

Hi Jim, We at NY Chiropractic Coll. are newbies to CCAOMLOOM. Looking
forward to the basic book list. Is the list a revision of a previous
list? If so, is the old list available anywhere? Thanks, Dan

Hi All,
I had no idea that a meeting was coming up. Did I miss an e-mail or
something? This is the first I heard about the meeting.
Unfortunately, I will be in Washington, DC on May 7to 9th and am unable to
attend the CCAOM LOOM meeting.

I have just completed a over a year long journal research project which I
can share with LOOM members, if you wish. It is a selected list of Journals
in Oriental and Complementary Medicine. Each title has a hyperlink to the
journals website. I am almost done with a publisher list of periodical
sources, but it is not ready for distribution. It was funded in part by the
Medical Library Group of Southern California & Arizona and by the Pacific
College of Oriental Medicine Library. The journal list will be shown at the
MLA meeting in Philadelphia May 18 to 22 and after that LOOM members who are
interested can send me an e mail.

If you discuss Library catalog & information systems, I highly recommend the
CyberTools for Libraries system. It is inexpensive and has all the bells
and whistle you need to run an efficient operation with circulation,
catalog, cataloging and search capabilities. They can be contacted at
1800-894-9206. PCAOM and New England School of Acupuncture and I believe
Hawaii use it. There may be others who also have it. It makes sense for us
to have a group with some compatibility.

Sorry I am missing the meeting, and New Orleans. Let me know sooner next
time.

PS: Send me the final agenda and minutes so I can see what's coming up.
