Bob, please don't talk skip on CB. I wish I could tell you how many emergency
callers I have been unable to help in 30 years as a REACT volunteer because skip
callers wiped out our radio link. Some of those were people in really desperate
straits.
Talking skip usually involves 'running power' with illegal linears. That means
no matter which channel is used communications on most other channels will be
compromised. That can cost lives since any channel is a possible emergency
channel in addition to Channel 9. Talking skip causes total chaos to emergency
comms.
A ham licence is easy to get now and allows you to 'run power' and talk right
around the world legally. I doubt you would want to be responsible for taking
someone's life through misuse of your CB. I don't want to spoil your fun, but
there are legal ways to have the fun without putting another's life in jeopardy.
I would challenge you to get a CB and join or form a REACT Team. Put your CB to
its best possible use for the safety of others. Then, go the ham route to talk
skip legally. Thanks for thinking about this some more. It could save someone's
life.
