I'd start with the Squelch control...in fact all of the
"Potentiometers" could use a good cleaning with some Radio Shack,or
other "Potentiometer" cleaner.Turn unit off,disconnect all
connections,especially 120 volt A.C. , Then Spray the stuff in the
back of the pot,where the wires go into the control.Then work the
control back and forth several times.
Once that's done ,if you can borrow a microphone from someone with the
same wiring on the plug as you have...try that out.If it works
fine,then check the connections (and clean with rubbing alcohol & Q -
tip) on the mic plug,open up the mic and clean/inspect all the
connections there.
If the borrowed mic works fine,and your mic still garbles,get a cheap
mic...'cause you have a broken wire in yours.
